Jaguar Land Rover Says If No Brexit Deal Reached It Will Pull Production From The UK

Jaguar Land Rover has warned that 40,000 jobs in the UK are at risk if the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without a strong free trade deal.

The UK’s largest automaker recently told the government that the lack of a trade deal with the EU could force it to leave the country due to a possible 1.2 billion pound ($1.59 billion) rise in tariff costs.

“We, and our partners in the supply chain, face an unpredictable future if the Brexit negotiations do not maintain free and frictionless trade with the EU and unrestricted access to the single market,” JLR chief executive Dr Ralph Speth said.

I the Trump tarrifs hold, automakers inside and outside of the US market will be totally screwed.

There is no longer really any such thing as a "domestic" or "foreign" car anymore - parts content probably ranges from 30% to 60% domestic and the inverse foreign - so there will be tarrifs up and down the supply chain.

The administration is foolish for creating so much uncertainty about tariffs.

Total BS. They are far better off INSIDE the UK.

This is the future the people of the UK voted for. Isolationism. Not too unlike the USA at present. They voted to turn away from an open market with the free movement of people, goods, and services. There is a cost of doing this. And it will be high. And as it is a very big world, if the USA or the UK wants to be left alone, there are many other nations to trade with. And if you ever wonder why voters act this way, voting to cut off their nose to spite their face, consider that approximately only 25% of people hold a college degree, 3% a Masters and 1% a Ph.D. Therefore, 75% of folks are winging-it through life with a high school diploma. If that does not scare you and or explain a lot of what you see in the news, or read on this site, nothing else will.

The UK saw the crushing debt and lawlessness that Der Fuhrer of the Fourth Reich and her cuckold puppet in France were bringing on the EU and they ran like hell. Funny how other European nations are toying with or planning to opt out of the EU. The UK is better off without the asinine policies of the EU.

CC: So if someone does not graduate from college with a floppy disk black hat on their head, we all should be scared. Could you explain that to me , please.

@ricks0me, 3 Examples. The Brexit vote and the election of Donald J. Trump and the election of Doug Ford in Ontario. Very complex issues are not fully understood by people without a higher education. Especially when we are talking about the complexities of global trade, foreign relations and economic unions like the creation of the EU. The wrong decision was made in these 3 cases and now the people of both nations and one province are going to suffer. The USA until the next election, Ontario, until the next election (our Chief Science Officier was canned just this week along with the ending the carbon tax and other green programs..) the UK, for who knows how long. Keep in mind there is not a cure or correction for this as everyone of voting age is allowed to vote if they choose to do so. Whether they should or not, is another matter entirely.

Currently the NAZI / fascist-socialist / Alt-Left / resistance of the loony Left is working against the Democrats BIG TIME in the polls to the point that a Republican sweep is a real possibility. The Democrats are losing their minds and it's backfiring on them.

@MD. Oh where to start. Wanting clean water and air and a brighter future for your kids is neither left or right politically, it is just common sense. And while many posters on this site are not old enough to remember, The EU and NAFTA and other existing trade deals were championed and pushed for and put in place by Conservative/Republican style governments the world over. Back then the political centre was crowded and most parties sounded the same and thought the same. Things were balanced and even-handed. And all economies involved in these trade deals have grown tremendously in the last 20-30 years. And their people have benefited greatly. I find these days that polls are bit based on who is publishing them. The only pole that ever counts is the one on election day. Time will tell. With 18-34yr olds being the biggest voting block and 100m voters sitting on the sidelines in 2016, things will be very interesting in the USA come November.

Sorry but the EU is a failed concept whereby the rich countries -England, France, Deutschland prop up and support the welfare shitholes Greece, Spain, Portugal and the likes. It's only a matter of time before it all comes crashing down as 1 world governments only work in the minds of the Liberal elitists whom create this shit for their own personal benefit and nannyism at the expense of everyone's freedom. I'm glad I left Berlin/Europe and so is my whole family.

JLR's real modus operandi is looking for any excuse to pull out of the UK and relocate to a lower cost/less unionized jurisdiction like um -India? You know it is only a matter of time with Indian ownership and new shareholders to appease.

@QEW You are ahead of the curve and seeing things for what they really are and may be at some point in the not too distant future. If you can be a BMW made in South Carolina, you can buy a Range Rover made in Bombay. It just takes a bit of getting used to.
