Tariffs Force BMW To Raise Prices On US Made Models, Will This Quell The Thirst For German Luxury In China?
BMW said on Friday that it will be unable to "completely absorb" a new Chinese 25 percent tariff on imported U.S.-made models and will have to raise prices on the vehicles it makes in Spartanburg, S.C.

BMW said it is "currently calculating related necessary pricing increases" for U.S.-made models imported into China and will announce them "at a later stage."

Merkel is the one in the precarious situation with her government in crisis internally and Trump b!tch slapping her with this tariff issue. Anything to get the old hag out of office is fine by me.

How exactly is Chinese tariffs on US built goods up to Merkel? These tariffs have nothing to do with Germany.

lmao, no. The people who buy foreign luxury vehicles will continue to do and just pay the difference. I won't change my car of choice because of some stupid tariff war.

This wont kibosh sales in China very much. The Chinese worship money there and the more you pay for something -the more perceived value it has as a status symbol and they love the bling bling in HK/Shanghai.

My gf from Hong Kong just bought a $3000 leather bag. I asked her what is it for and she said "shopping" -not even a purse that you would use everyday but rather a simple black and white leather bag for groceries or other crap. I'm in the wrong business...

BMW announced Monday that they will move some of their SUV production outside the US to avoid the US tariff issue with China. They're already building the X3 in South Africa now. They will also boost their overall Chinese production as well. The US is just making itself a less desirable place to manufacturer. Higher costs for steel and aluminum and soon maybe even car parts, and then retaliatory tariffs that make their product even that much more expensive. I'm sure those SC BMW workers will find a job in one of those new aluminum smelters or coals mines.
