IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED? The Rumor Mill Shares Stats About The Soon-to-Debut Toyota Supra — Is It Priced TOO HIGH?
One of the most highly anticipated debuts of recent memory is the all-new Toyota Supra. Boasting that legendary Japanese nameplate, there's a lot of anticipation behind this vehicle.

The Supra's always been a legend but ever since the Fast & Furious, it's now in the stratosphere. And, there's some signs that Toyota may have screwed the pooch on this one.

Namely, it's a joint project vehicle done in partnership with BMW. And if the spy shots are any indication, it's going to be a lot more BMW and a lot less Toyota. If that's the case, why even bother? Wouldn't you just want the real McCoy?

Leaked figures posted on a Supra forum indicate the following about the all-new Toyota. It will be powered by an inline six producing 335 horsepower and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. It will weigh approximately 3,300 pounds. Zero to 60 in approximately 4.5 seconds. Features like a head's up display, lane assist, pre-collision warning, navigation and park distance control will be standard.

But, like all things in life, there's a catch. According to the individual who supplied this data, the Supra will cost about $63,500. Mind you this info was brought to light in early June and with the potential for a global trade war, who knows if that will impact the price.

All that said, I've got to ask: IF the Toyota Supra debuts with a $63,500 price and stats like the aforementioned, will you be IMPRESSED or DEPRESSED?

What say you, Spies?

This product will hit with a hud. Rejected by the faithful. Rejected by those who cross shop it against a Mustang or Corvette or Camaro, etc. This BMW Z Coupe is not a Toyota Supra. It won't ever be one. Somebody should be fired.

The Z4 M40i is supposedly going to have 380+ hp and start just over $60k, and it’s a convertible, and it has a BMW badge. It’s hard to imagine a 335hp Toyota coupe costing more, but I guess we’ll find out.

The (base) Z4-M40i may cost less than the base Supra. However, an equally equipped Z4-M will definitely cost $20k-$30k more than the Supra.

The Z4/Supra comparos will be interesting.

Throw in a Mustang GT for $40K and watch it obliterate both at the track.

$33.5K is the proper base price for a Supra if it is to be viable for sales. At $30K higher, there are simply too many better alternatives for the same money or in the case of the Mustang GT, FAR less. This will be a total sales failure. Like the GT86, this will be a colossal failure.

I will wait to see the actual price. THere are far too many variables involved including possible Tariff implications as well for anyone to "guess" the price. However - for me - I have actually no interest in a Supra for any amount of money. THere are plenty of options I would prefer - including the Camaro - Mustang - or even Corvette - that any Toyota at that price would never even get a test drive from me.

Toyota itself has said several times that this will cost in the $60K range so guessing based on what Toyota has said repeatedly isn't likely to be inaccurate.

Dunno if people are to young to remember or have forgotten, but this class has always come at a premium. Toyota has a cheaper alternative, the GT86.

The Supra's traditional premium has not been a 100% increase over the Celica on which it was often based. It was typically 20% higher which would come out to a $31.5K base for the Supra (allowing the GT86 to play the role of the Celica). Granted the bloated Supras at mega prices changed that, but that price increase killed the Supra's volume. The Supra should be a Toyota Mustang GT pure and simple. It will never be taken seriously against a Cayman for example.

A Z51 Corvette base price with 460 horsepower before discounts is selling for a couple thousand less. Considering Vettes are selling with substantial discounts you can add desirable options and still be competitive with the new Supra. I'll take the Vette.

Not a bad strategy. For the same-ish money, I will stick with my GT350.

The difference needs to being a legit sports car.

A "legit sports car" does not need to cost $60K especially if it wears a Toyota badge.

The problem is the car is "all BMW Z4" underneath. It is tuned differently to Toyota specs and it has a Toyota body and interior. The straight six is all BMW as well. So unfortunately I think it would be difficult for Toyota to price the Supra 10 to 15 grand under a Z4. My guess is this thing will probably start above 50 grand.

You lost me at 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. That is ridiculous a) for the cost, and b) that's slow when you compare everything out there. My 7 Series, even being the boat that it is, delivers 0-60 in 3.6 seconds. If all of that is right, it will sell well at first, then it will be dead on the vine.
