LEAKED! An All-new Cadillac Coupe *MAY* Be On The Way — What's It NEED To SUCCEED?
When it comes to American brands, it's clear that two things are selling: High-performance vehicles and sport-utility vehicles/trucks. Everything else is, more or less, kind of just...there.

While some American brands have been doing pretty well, we've watched others struggle. RAM is on the rise while Chrysler is on the fall. Ford continues to reinvent itself while Lincoln claws for buyer's attention.

And, General Motors? It's middle of the road.

We've been waiting for Cadillac's breakout moment and so far it doesn't seem like it's there yet. Even if the Ciel or Elmiraj were to be made today they're irrelevant. SUVs are where business is at right now.

That's why we find it interesting that leaked patent images depict a Cadillac coupe. Boasting a Camaro-like presence and styling a la Escala, it's a move away from Art & Science — thankfully.

There's a chance we could see a reveal of something at this year's Pebble Beach event; however, there's no guarantees. I wish the XT4 had been more thrilling along the lines of this coupe but, unfortunately, it's now how that product panned out.

Having said that, we're curious, Spies: IF Cadillac is working on this all-new coupe, what does it NEED to SUCCEED in the all-new luxury market?

Pretty, but it isn't much different in the side profile than an Aston Martin DB11.

Agent OOR -

Indeed in the USA - crossovers are selling better than cars - but where is the compelling Large Sedan or Coupe that would sell in the USA?

Cadillac had almost given up that category - and even the new Lincoln Continental is a disappointment in person. The First CT6 - which I have - was never going to sell with its NOW OLD Arts and science styling - which ran its course years ago - while the car itself is competent. The problem - it has no Presence on the road -it does not look like a LARGE car - and offers no prestige.

IF a Ciel or El Miraj were to be introduced - I would predict they would become the IT car of the Luxury car business - instantly recognizable as top of the line. And they would SELL - more than predicted. THe Escala - to me - it less so. So - Cadillac is moving toward the Escala styling -a move forward nonetheless.

Coupes do not sell enough.
It needs 4 doors n higher ride height... Aka suv!

Coupes sell very well if they are priced right.

The fact that Cadillac is doing a coupe KNOWING the risk speaks volumes about how bullish they are on their future. I happen to find the XT5 and XT4 putrid, but they will keep the brand alive so that flights of fancy can happen.

Their strategy should be to go after the BMW 8 Series for Camaro/Corvette money.

Their strategy should also be to produce the Cadillac of muscle cars and NOT a wannabe BMW/Mercedes.

Price it at $40K or so base with a V6 and well equipped, a V8 around $50K, and a V model with a Corvette engine for around $60K that drives like $100K and it would sell very well. Price it above $75K and it's dead.

Cadillac needs to equal Mercedes and BMW for excellence all while maintaining an American soul. If they do that and provide tremendous value, they will win.

The same will be true for the CT5 which will need advantageous pricing say $35/45/55K otherwise it will be dead in the market. Besides, a Cadillac muscle car--this is a Cadillac Camaro essentially--is precisely what Cadillac needs to do to return to being American.

I, for one, hope this pans out because I think it is absolutely gorgeous and I want one.

Why are they wasting their time on cars? Looks like a Mustang in two of the shots.

While Cadillac is at it, they might as well start rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Developing a new coupe would be about as useful as that exercise to move something forward.

I disagree. I think this is exactly what we need. Just imagine:
Shelby GT350-stretched
Lincoln coupe body and interior
Same option packages found on the new Navigator
I'd buy one in a second.

Now if Cadillac used a trimmed down Camaro platform with the recipe above, call it something besides CT..., I think it would sell. But it does need a 4 door sibling.

Speed. Power. Handling. That is what is needed for success along with killer styling. It has to be stop the train beautiful.

A Lincstang should have been done by now. This is essentially a 2 door Escala. I agree that it needs a name. I'd go with Eldorado for the coupe and Seville for the CT5. Rebrand the CT6 as the Elmiraj.

This is supposed to be a 2 door companion to the upcoming 4 door CT5. Other luxury brands have coupes. Even if it sells in small numbers it shows Cadillac's confidence. It does need to be powerful out of the gate to set the tone.

It needs AWD and ZR1 engine.
I would buy it then.

Cadillac Stang. Interesting. The coupe market has always been lower-volume, but it's still viable, if the cost is right and the right demographic targeted. Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes certainly wouldn't be dedicated to their coupes if there wasn't a market. And let's remember, there's a market outside the US, too.

This is the first Cadillac that has ever made me actually consider buying a Cadillac. Don't f@#k it up Cadillac!
