OFFICIAL: BMW Announces The Pricing Of The 2019 8-Series — Would YOU Write This Check?
Not too long ago, BMW revealed the all-new 8-Series coupe. This means it will be serving as the brands' flagship, big body coupe. At least until the all-new M8 arrives.

It's just a matter of time at this point.

This already controversial vehicle is going to be an interesting one to watch for the blue and white. That's because it's expected to deliver an unbelievable driving experience but it also looks rather generic. This is a departure from the first-gen 8-Series that was radical for its time whereas this all-new 8'er looks like an evolved 6-Series.

It will just set you back $111,900* smackers.

*This price does not include title, taxes and fees.

In a world where cars like the all-new Lexus LC, Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and Porsche 911 exist, the 8-Series is going to have to be one helluva piece of kit to nab those sales. That said, we've got to ask: Would YOU write that six figure check for the all-new 8-Series?

BMW's press release follows:

Then it would cost the same as a 5 series. I guess the 5-series is overpriced as well? It should cost no more than a Lexus ES right?

Yes the 5 Series is overpriced. As are the A6 and E Class.

The research in the market is suggesting that sedans will either have to drop price or dramatically add features at no additional cost to remain viable.

The Lexus ES has a base of $38.9K
The 5 Series starts at $52K

The Lexus ES sells all day long at its price point.
The 5 Series is heavily discounted all day long which has the net effect of dropping it down to ES pricing levels.

The 3 Series should base at $30K and the 5 Series at $40K.

Lexus LC looks like someone tried and is a fantastic looking car. Almost supercar like design. This new 8 series looks like an updated 6 series. Not bad but design wise expected more from a BMW wearing iconic 8 series badge. Updated 4.4 TT V8 is fantastic though.

I'm guessing BMW is playing it safe. A bit of an overall upgrade over the 6er & dial-in that great engine. Smart to offer a top coupe model to rival the S-class coupe - something is better than nothing.

They realized that SUV/CUV's are the current consumer favs - why waste radical, next-gen effort for a evolutionary design that relatively few customers will actually purchase. The industry went ape$h!t over the Cullinan (finally...a RR SUV!) & in general, most SUV/CUV sales are easy. BMW has future designs ready - those will be better received when the SUV craze mellows-out. In the meantime, build something that preserves the recognized BMW design.

THe article above said it all - why would I spend that much for a car that looks like a 6 series?

THe problem with BMW and AUDI in the Luxury large car bracket is that they continue to make their cars LOOK SMALLER and LESS than what they are. People buying in that bracket are NOT looking for that - they are looking to make a statement. Making the car look like a 6 series only diminishes its value as a prestige automobile - and is truly a stupid idea.

Yes - some people like SLEEPER cars that look like less than they are at a stoplight - but then blow all comers away on green - but that is not the case here as well. And these cars STILL WEIGH like they are huge as well. That is probably why Audi only sold 50 A8s in the USA last month. There is nothing about it that really denotes it is a large prestige car worthy of its over the top (FOR a second tier Luxury brand) price.

From this point forward, the tactic for selling coupes and sedans will be to provide extreme value. Taking the 6/8 Series DOWN in price--while keeping high performance--would have been the ticket.

As much as I like the Lexus LC, it should have a base of $60K not 90K and the same is true here.

By calling the 8 Series, the implication is that it has to cost more than a 7 Series. By calling it a 6 Series, it could have been priced like a 5 Series.

Given how much it looks like a 10-year-old 6 Series, it makes me think that calling it the 8 Series happened very much at the last minute.

Its all in the driving for me. Before answering will wait for performance magazine reviews of driving experience.

Too expensive, bland styling = sales dud. It will probably do just ok the first year then fall off a cliff after that.

Clearly none of you actually understand who this car is targeting. This is the same audience as the S-Class Coupe. That’s the comp. This car is $13k LESS than the base S-coupe and has performance figures and, as a BMW, driving dynamics that are significantly more sport-oriented. This is the “extreme value” you reference. That’s a 10% undercut of their biggest rival with more performance. This car is a status symbol and designed to shuttle it’s driver from Rodeo Drive to the Palisades in style, luxury and speed. It will deliver in every way on that. I have an X5M an the lease will be up right about when the M8 should be hitting the market and this could probably lure me out of my SUV.
