Tesla Racing Series Runs Into Snag, Batteries Can't Hack More Than One Lap
No matter how close the electric takeover of the auto industry seems, there’s always the occasional reminder that the future isn’t as perfect or as within reach as we imagine. Take this Tesla-based Electric GT Championship race car, which only made it a lap and a half at full power recently before getting too hot.

Despite production Model S cars having a reputation for not lasting long on track, that “full power” part is key, and a spokesperson from Electric GT told Jalopnik in an email that several factors contributed to this racing version’s quick return to the pits for some air.

Electric GT is a series for electric production race cars that’s been approved by the FIA, which governs dozens of international racing series including Formula One. The series uses a modified Tesla Model S P100D with 778 horsepower, and announced Monday that it wants to expand with more manufacturers and more powerful cars over the next five years.

Model 3 Performance is Tesla's first car designed for the track. It will definitely destroy a Civic on lap 1 or lap 10. Electric GT should probably switch to the Model 3 for next year unless Tesla comes out with a new Model S with the updated batteries/motors on the 3.

“The team spotted an accidental disconnection of one of the outdoor temperature sensors from the air conditioning system, which caused the air conditioning system to not send cold air to the battery and other systems when needed,” the spokesperson said. “There is always a limit if the power is used indiscriminately, but the resistance threshold is much higher if the air conditioning system had worked correctly. The team has now fixed that.”

Well, you idiot could also read the article before posting shit.
Of course the headline is BS when in fact it was a disconnected sensor that caused the issue.

Gee, I wonder why anyone would possibly buy a Tesla when they do so poorly on the race track? You'd think those stupid Tesla owners are buying them just to use as daily drivers, or something. I wonder if they're any good for THAT purpose? :-/

The posts above except vdiv's prove that nobody else bother to read past first paragraph of the article. Kudo to your reading skills guys. It's just a loose wire, no need to get too excited.

Must be new to the site EVisNow. Anytime these guys/gals can ridicule EV's, or Audi, they will. I blame Agent009 also for spinning the title in a manner that promotes the negative Tesla comments, almost click-bait(ish).
I wonder how long an ICE car with 700+ hp would last at full throttle if the rad's fan was not connected.

@hangtime010 EVisNow is the latest identity of SanJoseDriver. Given that his Carloslassiter persona bit the dust, he needed a new account to say the same thing that the Carlos alter ego said.

@hangtime010: I do get a sense what this site is about. Can't help but finding it hilarious there are so many clowns in one place. Their reading levels are truly limited.

The level of intelligence shown on this thread is a new low for Autospies. Read the article before you post. Understand it is an FIA approved established race series. The car in question is a race car. This is not its first ever race. The car has 778hp. A Honda Civic does not. You can hate on Tesla all you want but they must have been reading @MD's advice on this site as they are going to be heading east and making cars in China. @QEW knows how focused they are on reducing air pollution. BEV cars (millions of them) are one part of the big plan to address this problem.

@joneshamilton. You are free to show yourself to be a jackass on this site if you want, but read the article first. Have someone read it to you if you are unable to read yourself which seems to be the case here. This Tesla is not the first race car to have an issue. Nor will it be the last. PS - Nobody really cares about the lap times of tin can FWD cars. Get hit by an F150 and which would you rather in driving in?

There needs to be a code embedded in the articles and this code needs to be used to post your comment.

Else idiots/assholes reading only the headlines and vomiting their shit in our eyes will continue to dominate here.

Wohld also force some posters here to hire a reading trainer.
