DRIVEN + VIDEO: So, What's The All-new BMW X2 REALLY Like?
BMW has not been wasting time introducing more entry-level sport-utility vehicles in its lineup. First, it was the X1 but now we've received something a bit more...sporting.

Dubbed the X2, it still boasts four doors but it has a more slinky rear end and a greater emphasis on styling.

But, does it deliver a better driving experience? To give you a better understanding of what the X2 delivers, check out Consumer Report's take on the all-new BMW X2.

Based on the X1 platform the all-new 2018 BMW X2 is sleek and offers an engaging driving experience. It drives more like a sporty hatchback rather than an SUV, but unfortunately the X2 sacrifices some interior space due to its styling.

Like driving in a coffin. I have rarely been in a car that is this claustrophobic.

ALthough I have never driven in a coffin - I will say that these sub-compact crossovers are really close inside.

Yes, this is almost scary to sit in. The problem, is that you can't put the seat in a higher position without getting too close to the ceiling. Unlike a traditional SUV with has more height. And it doesn't help that the rear window line swoops upwards.

Is it more coffin-like than a 2-series coupe?

Just had X2 loaner last week, it felt like a coffin inside, firm rough ride, under power with 2.0T, and bad FWD handling. Tell me why people take this over the X1 again? I know X2 looks a bit cooler but not enough over the practicality of X1 (that not X1 is great to begin with).

The BMW FWD system used by Mini (and now BMW) is darty as hell. When I went to the Focus ST orientation, they had a GTI and a Cooper S available for comparison. The GTI is the one that can be pushed beyond its limits very predictably. The rickety old Focus was nearly as good--which was a miracle. The Mini feels like what would happen if TVR engineered an FWD platform. It's twitchy, demands 110% of your attention at the limit, and is truly frightening beyond that. By contrast, the GTI can be coaxed into controllable oversteer to balance the initial understeer and the Focus isn't that far off. I've not driven the X2 much less driven it hard, but the BMW/Mini FWD system's mannerisms are ones that would be damned in a Hyundai Accent if they were to be present.

Thank you.

I wasn't sure if the comments were just general anti-small car, or this thing is materially different than an X3 on the inside.
