Genesis's G70 Will Debut BEFORE Most Dealerships Are Ready
Uncertainty has been a common theme around the dapper Genesis G70's U.S. launch — not because of the product itself, but rather the retail infrastructure surrounding it.

The sedan's debut was pushed back several times, and as recently as this spring, the brand's top global exec was saying it was unclear who would sell it when its summer 2018 release date arrived.

But the blurriness appears to be giving way to some clarity as the brand prepares to finally launch its first model that isn't a carryover from the Hyundai brand into a retail network where it will share some space with Hyundai products for now.

Behind the scenes Hyundai told dealers that in order to retail Genesis that they would need stand-along dealers, so some stepped up to stand alone dealers and purchased land on which to build then Hyundai said that it was abandoning the stand-alone dealer thing so several dealers let it be known that they were going to sue for damages so Hyundai said well maybe we will do stand-alone dealers, but we don't know.

It has been a colossal mess behind the scenes.

If Hyundai were really clever, they'd have inked a deal with owners of premium dealerships to take Genesis on.

The reality is that they should have launched Genesis as a brand with the first Genesis which was a good car. The Equus was an odd distraction. I honestly think that given the rumor of Hyundai buying all of FCA, that Genesis will go away but Genesis cars will be Maseratis.

yeah...targeting a dead brand which sold ass-stained products would clearly have been the obvious goal.

Priced right, the G70 can be a game changer if the dealership network doesn't screw it all up. If the G70 proves to be a lighter, nimbler, just as powerful version of the Stinger, then it'll challenge the Giulia as the best driver's car in the segment. The Stinger GT has a good amount of body roll compared to its direct German competitors and reviews of the G70 show it may have the same, so that may be one of the negatives. Its interior still won't challenge the A4 or C-class, but pricing should reflect that variance accordingly.

The goal for these two was for the Stinger to be more of a GT/cruiser and the G70 to be more of what BMW used to be before they lost the script. The G70 and Stinger need to be ADVERTISED heavily and great lease deals publicized.

Sorry - but the real problem is that both the Genesis - and the KIA equivalents - are from HYUNDAI in KOREA - and have NO history of being prestige or desirable cars. In the USA - Hyundai's and Kia's are more well known for the HUGE discounts that their dealers have to offer to move their cheap cars off the lots - than for any real Automotive Heritage - which they do not have.

Simply making a good car - a premium brand does not make. It takes years for that to come - and a history of making superior products - something Hyundai simply cannot claim. Charging higher prices for Korean cars does not work with the public - who are not used to CHEAP HYUNDAIS being that high priced -= so they DON't SELL - even with Major Discounts for a basic reason - nobody really wants to be seen or admit to driving a Hyundai - to other premium vehicle owners. Genesis really could not even compete with Volvo or Buick - or Acura - and other second tier brands who have history behind them. And the people who do buy them are the WANNA BEs - who really cannot afford a real top tier car. But that does not fool the people who know otherwise.

I'll gladly take a G70 over Buick, Acura, Volvo, Infinity, and BMW/ Audi any day, especially if it saves me some cash-even though I could afford any of the previously mentioned vehicles easily.
You seem to be living in the past regarding Hyundai / Kia.

No other vehicle has me more excited than the G70. Buick dropped the ball with an underpowered and underwhelming Regal GS. Acura is underpowered and ugly. Volvo is overpriced when compared to a comparable G70. I'll gladly pass A4s and 3 series all day in my "wanna be" G70 and be satisfied I purchased the superior car without pandering down to pretentious snobs who'd rather be seen in inferior/ overly priced product for namesake.

Real problem for me, just hard to wait for it to arrive.
