Lexus To Electrify Across F Performance Brand Line Up

Lexus could introduce a range of electrified powertrains across its F performance brand, president Yoshihiro Sawa has confirmed.

During a visit to the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Sawa told Auto Express that electrification could help the brand become a better rival to BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.

“F is very important; with F we have to think of our own original way. One solution could be a pure F GT car, which could be a hybrid with an electric motor and a strong engine, giving a different kind of drive feel.

Cue the purveyors of nonsense that Lexus is incapable of vanquishing Tesla with electrics.

Not likely, but mad respect to Toyota for saving Tesla with a $50M infusion 10 years ago.

They need to fix their sedan lineup first. The IS packaging is terrible to the point that it doesn't matter that it is a good car otherwise (basically the same problem as the Cadillac ATS). The RC is in the same boat and too heavy. The GS is simply not competitive in its class and desperately needs an update. Their 4 liter turbo also sucks.

Hopefully this electrification of the f cars doesn't take away resources from the above.

I'd kill the IS and GS.

Double down on the ES and make it more dynamic.

Do a mid-sized coupesedan.

Kill the LS--yes I know it's new--and replace it with a large, premium EV.

I'd definitely keep the IS, but it should be what the g70 is. Not everyone needs or wants an entry level car as big as an ES. Acura and Infiniti are dropping the ball too hard for Lexus to walk away from that market. Unfortunately, Genesis doesn't yet have the mind-share or dealer network even though they have an excellent product.

I also wanted them to make the LS a premium EV. At this point though it makes more sense for them to turn the GS into an electric coupesedan. The GS has been the car they use to debut new design directions so it makes sense.

Did you ever have a chance to drive an ISF? What a car.

The actual article gives really NO useful information - using words like COULD does not mean they WILL. And the article NEVER mentions Tesla at all. Maybe by then - Toyota will OWN Tesla.

What is clear is that this is a far future event - and they will be producing a "lovable" small EV. Likely a crossover too.

In my eyes Lexus has been trying to have it both ways like the Germans and failing badly. F or FSport cars sell in very low numbers. When there is an FSport RX 350 you know it is just a trim package. I would give up on F and F Sport variants and use my resources to make BEV luxury cars.
