If You Own A YELLOW Kia Stinger Get Ready For A Recall
According to CarAdvice, Kia will soon issue a recall for Stinger owners who checked the box for Sunset Yellow exterior paint. The problem? Defective paint. All of the affected Kia Stingers will receive a full respray. So what’s exactly wrong with the paint? Apparently the specific issue involves an oil ingredient in the paint that causes a failure in long-term durability. It can also more easily crack from stone chips and other forms of direct contact.

Their solution is a bit daffy. I'd have given customers a cash payment and a guarantee to do a repaint if the faulty paint from the supplier were to crack.

It's actually quite fetching in yellow. I chose blue.

Nearly 9000 people disagree with you so far this year. By the way, that's considerably more sales than the Alfa Romeo Giulia.

Build quality on the Kia is far better for one. For two the reliability is far better. For three, the Kia looks like a Kia--for better or worse--while the Giulia looks part BMW, part Infiniti, part Edsel. Dynamically, the Giulia simply isn't all that. Sure the Quadrapleggio kicks ass but the Ti is hardly remarkable in any way.

Oil based paint? I thought all the newer gen paint was all water based or so my local body shop tried to explain to me and justify a large bill on all the new environmental crap that they must do...

I too thought the same thing. This is a supplier issue, but if Kia is going to strip and repaint all the cars it must be a rather horrific glitch from the supplier.

Actually - virtually all Car paint was Solvent based until new VOC emissions regulation came into effect around 2012-14. At that point - most auto body shops could no longer afford the cost of complying with Solvent based paint.

However - these regulations are USA - and overseas they still can use Solvent Based paints in most countries. Solvent based paints still offer better rust protection and a finer finish than Water based paints. However - newer undercoats and primers are closing that gap.

This is a car that looks best in flashy colors, yellow, electric blue. Otherwise, it just comes off as a fancy Optima.

That would have been my solution.

Again - something MATT could not possible KNOW -and is unlikely as well. Virtually all KIA dealers have at least one of these vehicles out in front of their dealerships.

And for years - most Yellow cars were TAXIs - and other cars looked Tacky in that color - the Kia is no exception. YOU bought yours in BLUE - not yellow.
At least you can dream of a TVR someday!

I've seen a grand total one of these in person to date in a major metro area - it was gray. Apparently they are flying off the shelves in Hooterville. #MattSaysSo #Fetching #NoOneWithaSackWouldBuyOneofThese

I love my Yellow Kia and Kia has been awesome to deal with. They did offer a 100% buy back and to pay for any and all accessories I added to the car or Go trade it in for a New one (Cant be yellow of course) no questions asked on the miles and last but not least, respray at several paint shows of my choice and after completed I still had 30 days to decide if I wanted to keep it or not or take it and if I kept it, a very generous $5000 goodwill gesture for your headache and get the factory part warranty. Now the Infinity shop I was at for the repaint said that is an unheard of amount of money especially for a $50,000 car and he has been painting high end cars for 25 years. Now say what you want about Kia, a lot has changed with them in the last few years. This car is top quality and for 1/2 the price of most your other sports cars.
