A Paper Tiger? Nissan Slaps Hallowed Nismo Name On New Leaf But Forgets Performance

Nissan has finally revealed a production variant of the Leaf Nismo, the warmed-over EV first presented in concept form at the 2017 Tokyo motor show.

Looking almost identical to the concept and based on the production Nissan Leaf now on sale across the world, the Nismo version focuses mainly on chassis and visual enhancements, though Nismo does promise a retuned computer to improve response to accelerator inputs.

I have a coworker with the new Leaf and she would have gladly taken the Model 3 if a similar cost version was available. You're idea of what is aesthetically pleasing is stuck in the past. Going forward, expect more cars to look like the Model 3's interior. Classic Blackberry vs. iPhone... you'll get it when the 3 gobbles up the premium midsize market and other manufacturers scramble to compete.

The Model S looks like a bloated Fusion. The Model X looks like a pregnant Fusion. The Model 3 is the "chubby cubby" sidekick to the fat-assed Model S. By contrast the current Leaf is rather nice looking.

Jones you are so off base it's not even funny. Sure, the laggards here can't appreciate the design of it, but then again you may still be using flip phones. Most people that have sat in a 3 have ended up liking the aesthetics. The sales speak for themselves. It's easily the most clean modern design in any car. One day most cars will look like this versus the buttons buttons buttons design of today.

The white interior looks straight out of star wars, and I frikin love it. https://electrek.co/2018/07/23/tesla-model-3-white-interior-dual-motor/

@jones Did you notice how @SanJoseDriver used the diction and syntax of his alter ego Carlosasshatter?

@MD funny you mention alter egos since I saw a mirrored post with you and qwert-something. Rest assured, I'm not the only pro-EV, pro-Tesla person here.

@Joneshamilton - I do not have proof since that race has not been done yet, my comments are speculative based on the data I have just like your comment that it can't beat a Civic is speculative. What we know for sure based on the reviews of people that did take it to the track is that it performs better than the Model S in terms of overheating and times and that the standard brakes get torn up pretty quickly. As there are 0 Performance Model 3s delivered to customers as of today, we won't know for sure until actual track tests are made.

What do you want to bet that it will beat any Civic for at least 10 laps?

Well, here is one article with a RWD Model 3 matching a P100D on Laguna Sec: https://electrek.co/2018/07/03/tesla-model-3-mods-new-record-laguna-race-track/ Obviously the Performance Model 3 is going to do better with a second motor, an extra 250hp, and much larger brakes.

Badge engineering has fooled some people in the past.
THERE are those who will pay something that separates them from the "rest of the pack"

Today - less and less are fooled - but there are still enough that can get swayed by an unscrupulous car salesman looking for a bigger commision. It happens ALL the time.
