Trump Administration To Strip California's Authority To Regulate Automobile Greenhouse Gas Emissions

The Trump administration will seek to revoke California’s authority to regulate automobile greenhouse gas emissions -- including its mandate for electric car sales -- in a proposed revision of Obama-era standards, according to three people familiar with the plan.

The proposal, expected to be released this week, amounts to a frontal assault on one of former President Barack Obama’s signature regulatory programs to curb greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. It also sets up a high-stakes battle over California’s unique ability to combat air pollution and, if finalized, is sure to set off a protracted courtroom battle.

So basically there should be no state laws. May be you should decide what you want. When it comes to healthcare, every state decides what they want to implement but when it comes to car regulation only federal government can decide. I think we have a specific name for these kind of people.

If that's what each state wants, yes. Cars already have to be localized to hundreds of countries around the world. However, many states that want stricter rules are just doing a copy/paste of what California requires. That is the point of having states, giving freedom to let local government decide what is in the best interest of each state. If California wants to reduce pollution and pay for it using higher taxes, that should be their choice. If a state wants to ban weed and throw billions of dollars in taxes away, it's their choice. If there is one thing we should be trying to protect in the US, it should be freedom--our government is already way too big. The last thing we need is different levels of government micromanaging one another.

It was a very busy day for Trump. Tweeting at Iran, threating to take way clearance from former intelligence staffers who criticize him and now attacking state-level clean air rules imposed in 1975 and reaffirmed in 2009 in California.

If US states can make it very difficult to get an abortion, even though it is legal in the USA, or now say lakes full of coal plant tailings don't have to be monitored, California can very likely make and keep laws to have its air a bit cleaner. Good luck with this lawsuit.

I know if I was the US President, I would spend my time a bit differently.....
I'd spend whatever was needed to make the water in Flint Michigan safe to drink. I'd then get rid of Citizens United, taking all the money out of politics, next I would cut a NAFTA deal that was fair to all 3 parties, visit a local school reminding the kids to eat their vege's and study hard, go for a hop in an F18 off a carrier and make marijuana legal and tax it big time.

Afer lunch is over, I would likely order the bombing all the Russian bases in Syria giving them 24hrs to get lost and give them 48hrs to get out of Crimea. Bashar al-Assad would also be on the next plane to the Hague World Court to be tried for war crimes. Moving on I would likely also order the bombing of the militarized islands in the South China Sea warning China not to rebuild them ever again.

Lot's can be done when you don't spend your day tweeting...and carry a big stick :)

The US constitution give TO THE STATES the right to implement laws on items not specifically mentioned in the Constitution. Boris Trump CANNOT prevent California from enacting laws SUPERIOR to the US listed standard - as long as the they meet the standard set.

It is a basic CONSERVATIVE philosophy to restrict the power of the Federal Government -leaving the STATES the right to control what happens INSIDE their borders - allowing the Feds to set minimum standards. The very people who Boris Trump has nominated to the Supreme Court have long records of siding with the states on these issues - as do virtually ALL the current SUpreme court Justices - not only the Conservatives but also the less so. If it were to go before the SUpreme court today - it might be a complete Unanimous loss for the President.

Two options 1) do nothing and let California with it unique climatic conditions continue to have its own emissions standards. Or 2) revoke Californispas ability to manage their unique situation. The choice for Trump is easy. Which one will divide the nation the most? Will the right get hugely upset at choice number 1? From what we have seen in the past the answer is no. Will number 2 cause more tension and make a large group of people upset? Then according to the intent of Russia to tear down the USA option 2is Trumps logical choice.

OK Mr. Proof...let's get this clear.

You put out an OPINION and act like it is FACT and then attempt to bully someone for stating an opinion and supposedly not having facts. You're a hypocrite because you don't do what you arrogantly demand of others.

Moreover, you post is so rambling that is borders on incoherence. Try writing from a place of centeredness that then unhinged rage that you entertain but do not understand the source of.

You rely HEAVILY on emotional hysterics rather than cold, calm reasoning and anyone who has ever debated will tell you than when a person goes to emotional appeals, they have conceded logic and ethics.

Your response is riddled with hate language, but you demand to be taken seriously.

Try JUST ONCE try to respond without resorting to ad hominem attacks. Try to respond without puking inflammatory hate speech about Trump because then you'd have a shot at being taken seriously.

I have no desire for anyone here to take me seriously.

You say: "Trump abandons his wives faster than this." is a piece of "evidence" you attempt to prove that McCain is a virtuous hero, but there is no logical connection.

Nowhere did I disparage "those who sacrifice" but I unapologetically disparaged a traitor. If you survey Vietnam veterans, overwhelmingly they see McCain as a traitor. It is well documented that McCain gave the North Vietnamese all sorts of intel that got people killed. Google it.

How do the hate phrases against the President you use such as "DD" and "Draft Dodger Donnie" make your assertion more credible? They don't.

As for your "BO" comment, you clearly are so angry and hateful that you cannot allow yourself to lighten up when someone presents you with an opportunity to lighten up.

I perceive that you may be intelligent, but the histrionics of what you do is off the charts and blunts the true perception of who you are as a person.

I purposefully offer a distorted version of myself and have been incredibly up front with that.

I'm also tremendously forthcoming when asked direct questions about my life.

Peace and may the blessings of Lord Jesus our God and Savior keep you safe.

#3 Implying that you ever had any respect for President Trump is disingenuous on your part and you know it.

#4 My reference to Google is that you scream "proof" when it is readily available and no one should have to do your work for you.

#5 Lighten the hell up and pretend to be a real human being, Jesus.

@Truthy My brother Kyle and his husband are coming over for tri tip tonight. The tri-tip martini has small cubes of cooked tri tip on the mandatory cocktail swords with just a smidge of juice.

The martini glasses are frosted with sharks on them.

I cannot stand dirty martinis with olive juice and when Kyle came up with it as a signature drink when he tended bar while working on is master's I was revolted. He dared me to try it and it was sensational.

It sounds awful to have meat in a martini, but I will have one in your honor (genuinely), but then it will be back to razor blade martinis--another of Kyle's innovations--after that.

@xjug1987a when shall we expect you?

@Xjug1987a A tri-tip martini is a variation on dirty martini that my brother Kyle came up with. It's a vodka martini that is dirtied up by juices from cooked tri tip. He then puts a few small cubes of it on a skewer. Quite lovely.

@CarCrazedinCali You need to look up the word bigot because you know nothing of its meaning.
