IF The Reports Are To Be Believed, The All-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Will Be The Super Sedan You Want...
One vehicle that has really Agent 001 and my attention is the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door. That's because unlike other Mercedes-AMG four-door products — and its sport-utility vehicles — this one is different.

It was developed, from the ground up, as a true AMG vehicle. It's not a standard Mercedes that was given some hardcore, AMG treatment.

AMG built it as its own.

What that translates into is a vehicle that's completely ruthless. And if you need further proof, see what CAR magazine had to say about its experience at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the AMG GT 4-door. While the publication had the chance to go on a ride along, it was not permitted to drive the prototype vehicle.

That said, I've got to ask: Is the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door the SUPER SEDAN you want?

...We had heard that the pre-production model we were allowed out in wasn’t quite producing full power (or allowing full revs), yet the kick in the back from peak torque at 2,500rpm was noticeably fiercer than what you’d get in an E63 S, and would give all but the most ballistic hypercars a run for their money.

Grip and traction from the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system was considerable, yet there’s still ample opportunity to play around a little with the rear end. Turn all the aids off, however, and it’s almost comical how overwhelmed the back tyres are by the sheer amount of twist...

Too bad it's not a looker.

Completely disagree - Not is this Mercedes a "Looker" but for those who are looking for a Performance 4 door - this may be the 450sel6.9 of THIS time - a car that is head and shoulders above any current pretenders to the throne. However - the claim that it was produced GROUND up for AMG is likely false - as it is likely at least based on a current Mercedes Platform. Ground up limited production would result in eye popping Rolls type pricing if not higher.

Raising the bar - however - today - will produce competition that did not exist for the 6.9 - and was too far away from the product line. Both BMW and Porsche have the basis for competitors -and they do not need to necessarily be completely separate models.

But again - Mercedes has produced a real WINNER here.

Is the AMG GT 63 S with a base price of $195,000 the car I would go for in that price range? Not so sure...I'll let you know if I've got the winning MEGA ticket tonight.

I want to see a real, full on instrumented test drive first before I make any decisions.
As for the styling, both in and out, I really like it.

This: "It was developed, from the ground up, as a true AMG vehicle. It's not a standard Mercedes that was given some hardcore, AMG treatment. AMG built it as its own." is pure PR department BS.

This is a Mercedes E Class hatchback with a truck face and fast parts.

Will it be an excellent performer? No doubt and I'm sure it's stellar.

But living with its generation-1-Panamera ungainliness is the down side.

It is quite ugly - just get an E63S AMG

The new Porsche Panamera is far better looking inside and out. It has ample power. This car seems pointless.

That is a matter of personal opinion, to each their own.
Personally, I prefer the MB's interior and looking at the Panamera Turbo S as the only version able to compete with the GT63S, I am turned off by the ridiculous pricing of that car, even conservatively optioned.
Question is still open regarding the price of the MB though.
I have a feeling the M8 will have superior performance, styling and will undercut the above 2 cars price wise.

Also if you see the numbers, an E63s (which is slower than the new GT63s) is fastar than the Panamera Turbo by far....so performance wise the GT63S is a lot better than the Panamera.

I absolutely love this car. It may not have the slinky sexiness of a Rapide, but it has a presence and aggressiveness that the now-feminine Panamera does not. And if the production 8Series coupe is any indication, then the 8Series Gran Coupe will be pretty uninspiring. The performance potential here is pretty incredible.

It looks porky and, IMO, def not a looker.

It looks like a first generation Panamera with all the style removed.
