Mirror, Mirror On The Wall, Who Has The Plushest Ride Of All?

When it comes to finding a comfortable ride, it appears you get what you pay for.

In a recent test conducted by Consumer Reports, the organization subjected an assortment of different models to a 30 mile (48.2 km) loop which included a variety of roads in poor condition. The reviewers traveled at a predetermined speed and rated the models on how well they handled the road imperfections.

Honestly, does anyone trust Consumer Reports when they start issuing reports on subjective experiences? Really?

Just don't buy the S class with 20" wheels which destroys the ride, a mistake I made. Also got five cut tires here in northeast during my 39 month lease. Never again!

Although the Maybach may beat the last generation Rolls Phantom - handily beats any Bentley Mulsanne - it does not beat the Newest Rolls Phantom. For me - The Maybach is a better handler than the Phantom - but for complete PLUSHNESS - THe Phantom is just a tad - but still better. For double the price of the Maybach - you do get the Ultimate Luxury Car.

As far as Consumer Reports - the article noted that they tested over POOR roadways - should have included a good one as a base - but the article did not mention HOW MANY different reviewers performed the test - or give Their particulars - so the article is and testing is flawed by that.

Find a fully loaded Continental for $70K ish and offer $55K because you'll get it and enjoy a delightfully old-school American luxury sedan without any of the slop. The Continental was very hastily done, but I enjoyed the full-tilt one I had.

You would expect this kind of review from a FORD salesman who actually had one for a while - but while the Lincoln has a good ride on reasonable roads - it still does not handle POOR road conditions well enough to approach the top cars here. I have to also admit that the Cadillac CT6 does not either.

When TomM resorts to ad hominem attacks, I win because he has nothing to oppose what I say other than to be pissy old drama queen.

Not surprising. Having driven or ridden in most of these, I would say it's fairly accurate.

It is surprising the Lexus wasn't on here (maybe they couldn't get one?), and of course the Audi was hampered by a last-gen model.

Nothing compares to the Phantom though, that's untouchable at the top of this category right now.

The S and 7 are very close, to the point where large wheels and sport tires on the S, and smaller wheels and comfort tires on the 7 would probably flip the rating. But all else being equal, the S has to take it.

I would trust Consumer Reports, insofar as I would trust any subjective ranking of this type. As long as you understand it's based on feel, and somewhat on opinion, I see nothing wrong with it. Consumer Reports is less likely to be influenced by advertising dollars, and considers more real-world practical aspects as a whole.

The new A8 rides better than any of these.

Nonsense - for Plushness - the A8 does not approach the S class or Bentley or Phantom.

The new A8 will likely have a much more plush ride than the prior one.

Now that Audi's are complete platform-mates of Bentley's (Q7=Bentayga and A8=new Continental and soon to be Flying Spur) - why buy the Bentley? Just buy the Audi and get a better warranty and almost the same experience.
