Too Odd To Catch On? Nissan Kills The Juke In The US Market

Want to get a new Nissan Juke? Well you’d better act fast, at least if you live in the United States. Because the latest word has it that the Japanese automaker is dropping the divisively styled little crossover from its lineup.

As Autonews points out, the Juke never really caught on in the US, and sales have been dropping off even further.

Someone at Nissan has a brain. Someone realized there was no way in hell the Nissan Puke would be a player in the B segment crossover wars. Somehow, they kept the French slop out of the styling when they did the Kicks. The Kicks is the same vehicle with better styling. I don't see the loss. Nissan dealers are no double thrilled by the superior Kicks.

It looks ridiculous, but I think the terrible name was as much of an issue.

Hence the decision to go with a new one on the restyled version - not that "Kicks" is any better. On the other hand, we can all look forward to Darringer calling it the "dicks" in future posts.

I hadn't thought of that. I was thinking of calling it the Kraps. How does that resonate with you?

I honestly cant believe that Nissan intended the Juke to be a "long-term" model in their lineup. It was initially quirky. And then it got some unexpected street cred with the Juke-R franken-mod with the GT-R engine & AWD - that was a lil exciting. But then Nissan released the Nismo versions that were as serious as the Chevy Cobalt SS trim from maybe 10-15 years ago.

Also, its a low-riding weirdo-mobile. Maybe the AWD version will be something of a gem in the used car market. I don't think it'll be missed by many.

And yet from a driving standpoint the Kicks is an inferior driving vehicle than the Juke. No turbo and no AWD. Doesn't have something like 125HP or something. Going up a steep hill and a strong headwind wind it will probably just stay in place.
