DRIVEN: Mercedes AMG C63 S Delivers Solid Performance But Can You Stomach That Price?
There's a great story about a Swiss watchmaker who inadvertently saved the luxury watch business back in the 1970s. At the end of that decade, the watch world was in the middle of a revolution. The entire industry had decided, with incredible speed and solidarity, to abandon complex mechanical movements in favor of battery-powered quartz, which had every seeming advantage—not only was it more accurate and more reliable, but cheaper as well. And, like many revolutions before it, there was an attempt to erase the past: watchmaking machinery was destroyed across Switzerland, the tooling junked for scrap. The future was embraced by all; no one looked back.

Not interested with a heavy V8 up front. I'd wait for a 1.5L V6 that spins to 10,000 rpm with 500 hp!

would you settle for a 1.6L hybrid?
if so https://www.mercedes-benz.com/en/mercedes-benz/vehicles/mercedes-amg-project-one-formula-1-technology-for-the-road/

That's what I'm talking about... but of course in a C63, which 1000 hp is not needed, your capacity got to be a little lower, and I'd rather not have hybrid system.

Depends on the type of hybrid system. Many of the hybrid vehicles made by mainstream automakers have a hybrid system that maximizes fuel economy. There are some that have a "sport" option which de-prioritizes fuel consumption & adds to acceleration responses.

I would think a gas-electric hybrid system using a 48V vehicle system paired with a descent turbo or TT-V6 would make for a really exciting powertrain setup. Geared of course towards the performance side of operation.

You will be waiting for centuries - there will not be a 1.5l V6 like the one you described - and I think even you know it.

There will - but only in the $2.5 million AMG Concept One supercar.

Would you spent over $100K BASE on an LC500 or $100K on a FULLY LOADED C63S Coupe? Easy answer: the AMG. The AMG just laughs at an LC500 from a performance standpoint.

Or you could spend less money and buy a Tesla Model 3 Performance and crush the C 63 at stop light after stop light. Then laugh as you are getting about 10 times the energy economy over the new Benz.

Then the C63 driver will laugh as the Model 3 burns to the ground at the next light.

There's TONS more to a driving experience than straight-line acceleration. I want noise. Beautiful aural sensations of going fast. I dont' want to feel like I've just gone 0-60 in 3 seconds in church. i also want the car that surrounds me to feel and look great. I don't want to feel like I'm going 0-60 in 3 seconds inside a refrigerator. I also want to know that going around curves is going to make me grin and know that I can burnout when I want. So, keep your Model 3.
