What Cars Are Being Traded In For A Model 3? We Now Know
Now that Tesla has finally reached its Model 3 production goals, it’s comfortable bragging a little bit about the car and its owners. In today’s investor call, the company released a list of the cars people are trading in for the Tesla Model 3.

The list isn’t necessarily very surprising, with a range of cars that fit a spectrum of comparable features, practicality and price to the Model 3. It’s important to note that the $35,000 Model 3 trim is still not available, and Tesla noted that this list doesn’t include people that trade older Teslas for a new one.

nice,
step1- turn in a 20k corolla to buy a 50k model3
Step2- drive for 30 years
step3- hit ROI
Step4- no profit

I don't think you buy a car specifically to make a profit.

Not many new ones at least.

If there is any doubt about the Model 3, I strongly suggest the car enthusiasts out there to take a test drive at a Tesla store near you. You can even sign up for the Performance Model test drive (I am scheduled for a test drive this weekend)

I have a Long Range Model 3 for a month now, and can affirm that it's the best car for the money you can buy today (~$50K before savings in EV incentives, maintenance cost and fuel). The Model 3 Performance, according to many accounts, can arguably be the best car period.

FWIW, I've been driving sporty cars for a long time and familiar with performance characteristics of many different cars (over 30 years, American V8s, Japanese V6s and German/English I6/F6/V8)

It may fulfill YOUR requirements for an auto - BUT it does not fulfill mine. I regularly travel LONG distances - often driving well over 500 miles in a day - and I drive to Motels and Inns most of which do not have charging stations and do not return home till the weekend. In addition - I drive straight through to FLorida in 1 drive (1100 miles) 4 times a year at least. THERE is no EV today that has the range I would need nor are there quick enough charging EVs yet as well. Since it cannot fulfill MY needs - it is NOT the best car for the money for me - and that is ALL that counts to me.

In addition - the interior of the Model 3 is a JOKE to me - it would NEVER be something I would consider for ANY reason. I really do not care what cars you drive or have driven- you cannot speak for all requirements . Fact is - I prefer V-12 sedans - something you do not mention.

@TomM: I've read enough of your posts to understand where you stand. I don't drive V12, but FYI both my next door neighbors have V12 S600. One already bought a Model 3 for his wife, the other is putting down a deposit for the Taycan after evaluating the Panamera Hybrid and not happy about it. I can't speak for them, but it's clear having V12 cars is NOT a reason to shy away from EV.

To each man his own, I'm not persuading YOU in particular to consider an EV. But to provide a fair and accurate assessment of a car - any car - you need to start with an objective perspective. Once personal bias kicks in, it's become YOUR opinion and does not count in a bigger picture.

Speaking of bigger picture, July sales number of the Model 3 and trade-in data tell a compelling story: its appeal and acceptance is widespread, even at a fairly expensive $50K starting price (including destination charge).

I have to side with TomM. Until an EV is suitable as my only vehicle, it won't be my only vehicle.

On the topic of "best" cars and the Model 3 being arguably "the best," I thought Roll-Royce makes the "best" acrs ;-) Clearly, "best" means different things to different people. "Best for whom" and "best for what purpose" are key questions.
