TEASED! BMW Gives Away What's Coming To Pebble Beach With One Photo...
It was only a week ago I wrote a story about BMW teasing an all-new vehicle making its production debut. Set to appear at Pebble Beach and make its very first appearance, it's expected to be big.

At first I thought it was the X7 that we've been waiting on forever. Then the more I started going through the list of possibilities, there were several autos it could be.

Well, that was until I re-read the press release that said it will be an "emotional," debut. That sort of gave it away. And, just yesterday, one of BMW North America's public relations team members posted a teaser image.

This is where it becomes clear the Z4 will be appearing for the first time at Monterey Car Week.

See the teaser shot, below.

I can hear the collective yawns now.

No yawn here. I'm looking forward to seeing it in the flesh. It's on my short list if my clubs will fit in the trunk with the top down.

It won't be enough car to justify the price.

Unless you can get an entry-level one off the dealership lot for 320i money (i.e. $40K) and a premium one off the lot for 340i money ($55K) no one is going to care.

This should be the BMW Miata which would certainly re-invigorate the brand (and the BMW brand is definitely in need of re-invigoration).

Double yawn.

This should have been $35K with a 2.0T, $40K 6 cylinder, $45K turbo 6. THAT would have made sales on fire and this a raging success. Because it will easily be in the $60K range all day, it will be an abject failure. The Mustang convertible and Stingray convertible will obliterate it for style and performance.

I agree with you completely, but . . .

If you want a cool roadster it's a big step up and a lot more desirable than the Miata/124, and there isn't much else to really consider. The Boxster is a different kind of ride, and the Audi TT has a trunk just large enough to hold a sandwich.

So, yes, overpriced, but not so much that it disqualifies it for me.

So you're willing to pay 2X the price of a Miata for a vehicle barely better than a Miata?????

In one enthusiast magazine its reported that base model C8 mid engine push rod V8 Corvette will start at $65,000...which would you choose? Me too!

I wouldn't say "barely better" - I expect more performance, a much nicer interior, better options, better color choices, and, yes, better brand. I admit I'm a snob, and I'm not going to miss the extra 20K. Still, it is about as much as I can justify spending for an occasional weekend toy.

Forgot to mention the trunk space. The Miata (and the 124) won't hold golf clubs, so they don't work for me anyway.
