CAR WARS! EVs Battle To See WHICH Is The BEST Of The BEST — Is Jaguar's I-Pace REALLY A Tesla Killer?
These days it's tough to go one day without a bunch of coverage related to Tesla. This is the simple reality, folks: It is the hottest automaker alive today.

These are the vehicles people want to know about. And, obviously, many investors — institutional and retail, alike — have a vested interest in the company's performance whether it's good or bad.

That said, the best electric vehicles from the traditional automakers are starting to emerge. And it's happening at the most interesting time.

Tesla is just starting to hit its stride with Model 3 production.

While electric vehicles like the Ford Fusion Energi and Nissan Leaf exist, they're just not enough to go toe-to-toe with Tesla. Although Agent 001 and I laugh at the mere thought of someone comparing a Chevrolet Bolt to a Tesla Model 3, it is actually happening — what matters most is how many miles can be achieved with a charge. Sales of the Bolt were up when Model 3's were still being figured out at the factory.

One of the latest EVs to make a splash is the all-new Jaguar I-Pace, which is rumored to be a Tesla killer. At least that's what our friends are telling us that have driven it. But, are they right?

Autocar weighs in, below.

...Those who feared the all-electric future towards which we are inexorably moving would result in people pods of no discernible character or intrinsic desirability should be much encouraged by the I-Pace. For the truth is that in the absence of a conventional engine, design and driving dynamics become not less but far more important than ever. The I-Pace recognises this fact and delivers on the imperative behind it and, on the way, should help change not only the way we think about electric cars but Jaguar too. And for a brand that has struggled with its image for far too long, for those who love the British motor industry that could just be the best news of all.

1st - Jaguar I-Pace: Europe’s first long-range premium electric car gets it right first time. Looks like a Jaguar should, drives like one too

2nd - Tesla Model S: Still impressively capable given its age, but quality is variable and chassis not close to the standard now set by Jaguar...

Well done Jaguar. Looking forward to actually seeing some on the streets eventually--both the consumer version and the Waymo variant.

AND - IF you buy the Jaguar - you can get a full $7500 tax credit - something Tesla can no longer say. Again - as I said - the proliferation of competition along with the major competitors advantage of lots of dealers and service points will eventually win out.

The full tax credit on Telsa is in effect for the rest of 2018.

Yeah - I burst out laughing too...

...Agent 00R with his shrimp-dipping, chardonnay-swilling, press junket invite-seeking auto-journalist hat on!

"It is the hottest automaker alive today" - I guess the operative adjective in his sentence was "alive".

Let me parse this for you...Tesla is hot because it is still alive.

Agent 00R - what happened to the breathless Autospies coverage of new model launches from year's past? You know, the ones where 001 posted photos of his hotel room, the shrimp, about 600 photos of the product launch, including several photos of the well-bosum'd welcome committees, etc? Those posts had a certain joy about them - they joy of getting lots of stuff for free!

001 would get wined and dined and post like hundreds of photos of the event and we'd have to scroll thru them to find the 30 really good photos - he was a very good photographer though.

@mre30 Don't encourage their lack of editing and lack of restraint. Remember, owning a Nikon does not make you a photographer. It makes you a Nikon owner.

The irony is that the quality on the Jaguar is likely to be better.

The Polestar 2 is a car that the Model 3 cannot compete against , either in terms of looks, driving range, and especially price - looks to undercut the corresponding Model 3 variant by $22,000.
The Porsche Taycan, which can recharge faster, go faster, and recharge twice as fast will steal sales from a lot of Model S and Model X (most unreliable car on the planet)

The Polestar 2 won't even be out until 2020 and is currently vaporware besides some rough specs of 400hp and a base price of $45-55k at 350 miles of range. Upgrades I'm sure will push this another $10k or so, which would put the price right around The AWD Model 3 ($54k). Do you seriously think the Model 3 won't be better 2 years from now than it is today? Tesla makes improvements to their lineup constantly.

Are you kidding? On the outside the 6 year old Model S still looks way better than the iPace. The interior goes to the iPace, although from a UI/UX standpoint I greatly prefer the Model S setup.
