Time To Make That Trade Deal? Toyota Warns Of Big Price Jumps If Tariffs Go Into Effect
Manufacturers around the world are preparing themselves for U.S. President Donald Trump's continued threats to impose higher duty fees on vehicles imported into the United States. In an unsurprising announcement by Toyota, the continued threat of looming tariffs could lead to more expensive cars for American consumers. According to a report by Reuters, the automaker issued a statement regarding the "big impact" tariffs would impose on the automaker's bottom-line, and the company won't be eating the entire cost.

Costly scare tactics. Besides the $1.5T log thrown on the US national debt for a tax cut the economy did not need, Trump's tariff wars have cost the US taxpayer $12B in a bailout to US farmers. And we have barely gotten started. How much is the US voter willing to accept in terms current costs for some imagined long-term gain? Even with zero tariffs, just how many US cars will sell in Japan each year?

CC why don't you shut up... 1.5T in the debt... you haven't a clue so be quiet and let adults and citizens discuss. Barry Soetoro racked up $10T in 8 years and tried to sell out the nation, let alone the massive regulatory burden placed on the economy, but gets a pass by pathetic D/B's like you, Tom the turd and Senile Steve... you're all hypocrites. Shut up and enjoy the protection this nation provides for you bumpkins north of the border.

@XJughead - Every time you open your mouth you just spew..crap. Wars that other Presidents started and a bailout that saved the millions of jobs in the banking and auto industry are what happened during the Obama years. He didn't have a choice. That is the kind of decision-making adults do, putting the jobs of millions of Americans before votes. They don't tweet policy or insult other leaders on the phone or most recently claim the forest fires in California are caused by the state diverting water into the ocean. And only an idiot throws money on a roaring economy. Ask someone who has cracked a book and they will tell you. Hang on to your Maga hat with both hands. Trump will be just one term.

@xjug1987a...Funny how TheSteve started off as a somewhat reasonable person and then little by little became hateful, histrionic, and psychotically unhinged. Then came CanadianComments that seemed like a somewhat reasonable person at first , but little by little is becoming hateful, histrionic, and psychotically unhinged. Even the phrasing is eerily similar. Does the disease cause that or is this the same person.

Personally, I'd hoped CC would come back from the brink of insanity because he used to be fun to talk to.

Trump is doing the right thing in trying to level the playing field and has proposed to European and Asian countries the idea of having zero tariffs. That sounds like a win/win, but for some reason other countries do not want to go along. Why? Because they would have to give up ripping off the US and have enjoyed doing so for decades that span Presidents from both political parties.

Given how much revenue Toyota generates for Japan, the latter is the tail being wagged by the dog (Toyota).

Actually - There is no import Tariff on imported cars in Japan.

What is different is the way imported cars are allowed to be sold in Japan that creates a problem for Manufacturers.

High prices equals fewer sales so they will come around. Only a matter of time.
