Yikes! Buick Avenir Trim Level Will Add Over $10K To Price
Earlier this month we learned that Buick will launch a Regal Avenir trim level for the 2019 model year. Avenir, as you likely already know, is Buick’s premium sub-brand that has become a massive success, with one in every four new Enclave crossovers sold is Avenir spec’d. That means additional profits and sales for GM’s premium brand, so it makes total sense to expand its Avenir sub-brand to other models.

According to Cars Direct, the 2019 Buick Regal Avenir will carry a base price of $36,195, and that includes the $925 destination fee. Compared to the base Regal Sportback, the Regal Avenir carries a significant price increase, $10,200 to be precise.

If the engine and drivetrain are the same and Buick is simply upgrading the trim package, that seems like a lot for a Buick. Of course the Denali I believe has been a steep price increase over base GMC models, so some consumers might be willing to pay it.

Taking a vehicle that doesn't sell and jacking up the price 30% is a brilliant move.

Yeah but it's a BMW. This is a Chevy Rentabu pretending to be a Buick.

Actually Apple Carplay on a 3 Series is a $300 stand-alone option.

It does have a lot more standard equipment. The comparison is inaccurate. It is $10,000 more than the base Regal, not the Avenir trim. It they have had success with it on other models, why not.

It is originally an Opel product. The Malibu is derived from the same platform.

It's a Malibu with a different hat. Implying that Opel is somehow better is lunacy given that Opel is a brand of class trailing designs in Europe.

Again - we see nonsense - YES - the Buick is made on the same platform as the Malibu - but the Buick is more related to the Impala than the Malibu - but they are still different cars.

Currently VW - makes the Porsche Panamera on a Platform that they make Bentlys and Audis on - and they are not the same cars either.

Major Manufacturers are now reducing the number of platforms they support - in order to make more profit - and allow for common parts to interchange - but Manufacturers can and do make clear distinctions between their cars even if they are on the same platform. Using common parts is not a sin - and if it was - why not call the new TVR a MUSTANG because they share an engine - or maybe they will someday.

Once again, TomM misses the point entirely.

it is not a bad car. Trouble is most of GM's and Ford's are comfortably mid-pack. neither has a vehicle that one can honestly say is best in its respective class.
If you want to break out of the equivalent of the "friend zone" thye need to start launching vehicles that grab your attention as best.

It's a C+ at best, but I agree that Ford and GM could do better than C+. They do enough to make money and as long as they are making money, they make no plans for new cars to make more money. Then when the cars die they go into their "Oh sh!+" mode and scramble (EgoSport, Blazer, Nautilus, XT7,...).

As for sedans, GM simply don't need the same car five times (Malibu, Impala, Regal, Lacrosse, and XTS).

I'd kill the Impala, Regal, and Lacrosse. I'd grow the Malibu slightly and make it a PHEV across the board with an EV as the top trim level. I'd throw some amazing styling on the XTS, call it a Seville, and aim it straight at the Lexus ES at a slightly advantageous price.

As for Buick, I'd add an Electra EV crossover and an Invicta crossover-coupe performance 4-door say a Buick Blazer.

Ford should have had the Continental replace the MKZ and maintained the MKZ price. Oddly, Ford has incentivized the living hell out of the MKZ which can be leased for Fusion prices and has left the Continental high and dry.

Ford and GM like doing a plethora of so-so products and then they market them haphazardly.

Go for it.. if it sells more power to them. It would be really great if the car was a global pace setter that everyone else wanted to emulate but again, GM provides what little they have to, to be competitive. It used to be GM was "it" (a very long time ago) and they commmanded the marketplace... now they barely play catch up, sad...

Buick, the old man's car will be injured by GM's greed.
