If The 2020 Mid-Engine Corvette Looks Like THIS, Are You Taking Out That Second Mortgage On The House?
As much as General Motors denies it, the fact is this: a mid-engine Corvette is coming. The numerous sets of spy shots and insider information prove this. But we know GM wants to keep this quiet for as long as possible, at least until it’s ready for the full reveal. That could happen as soon as this fall or at Detroit in January. For now, we have something that’ll get everyone talking.

Thanks to rendering artist ‘fvs’ via MidEngineCorvetteForum.com, we probably have our best look so far at the production C8 Corvette final design. The rendered image was created based on spy shots, specifically one showing the upcoming C8.R race car out testing on the track.

THe real question for me is whether a Tall large person can actually fit into the car. THat is the problem with most mid engine cars - and there is no workaround - you cannot move the engine back or the front wheels more forward. At least in many cars - you can mount the drivers seat further back for more room.

In my eyes, that's the ugliest car I've seen. If that is ever a convertible, that rear 3/4 is going to be rough. If that is the Zara, and the C7 remains the Stingray, then ok. But if that is the only Corvette, count me out.

Hardly original or distinctive, a little McLaren, a little Ferrari, a little Lamborghini corvette badges

I still think this is a car that nobody asked to be created. I will be interested to see what kind of sales numbers it can muster.

I predict this will have such poor sales that it will kill the Corvette.

ALL exotic sports cars are answers to a question FEW asked - since they all perform at levels that cannot be appreciated on public roads - but few ever get to a race course - and many never even get driven often. I believe the new Corvette will outsell every other mid-engine sports car on the planet.

Those here who are calling it the ugliest car they have ever seen - I- have never actually seen it - and 2 - apparently have seen very few cars in their lifetimes. I believe that once you are behind the wheel - it will look just fine to its owners!

Corvette has always been THE affordable Exotic car made in the USA. Even when Super High Performance versions sell over $100,000 - they are still that much cheaper than other exotics on the market - and the Corvette retains a special place in the market for prestige and desirability. For comparison - a new FORD GT will sell for $400,000.

We do not have a look at the final design of the CORVETTE - and most of the "artist depictions" of cars these days have been way off - so as far as the styling - it will NOT be the determination of whether the car sells - it will sell VERY well the first year. People are already putting off current Corvette sales to wait for the new one. ANd then Chevrolet will follow with other higher performance versions that will also sell well - as they always do.

Of course - the Corvette has gone upmarket - leaving the lower price ranges to the Camaro -so there are a lot of people complaining simply because they can no longer afford one. But - this car will be a major hit for Chevrolet regardless.

TomM. Since I am on here, it is safe to say that I have seen, and owned a few cars in my lifetime. Today, I own 16. Through my eyes, and not your eyes, this is the ugliest car I have ever seen.

I disagree. Corvette should have become a sub brand similar to the i brand at BMW. It could offer this mid engine car as the halo car, similar to the Ford GT. It should be built in very low numbers.

The current Stingray should live on and it should spawn a 4 seat coupe to compete with the Panamara. But the big problem is not the Corvette. The big problem is that no one wants a small car anymore. The current Corvette is a great car. But SUV's rule the day. So, put the engine in the back, leave it in the front, put it under or on top, and you still have a car that most people don't want anymore. Take the Audi R8. How many US sales a year? About 700? Let's say the Vette sells twice as many. Are we talking 1,400 cars a year?
