Porsche Says Internal Combustion Engine Production Will End With The 911
Electric plugs have been sneaking into the Porsche lineup for some years now, starting with the 918 Spyder and Panamera S E-Hybrid in 2013. With the Porsche Taycan now scheduled to hit showrooms in late 2019, the shift from plug-in hybrids to all-electric models begins. Where will it all end? With the company’s storied 911 model, apparently.

One often ignores that Hybrids are part of the equation.
THe ability to offer both an ICE car with an Electric assist - done properly - will extend the life of ICE engines for decades.

Again - we still do not have the infrastructure to support an all EV fleet - no charging stations - not enough electric generation capacity - and for those who believe that they will appear by Magic in less than 10 years - that is PURE nonsense. We still need faster charging times - and cheaper and safer battery options. Add in - the new generating plants will need to be CLEAN BURNING - or it will not help the environment to simply move the emissions to a plant rather than the cars themselves.

In the 1970's we were warned that by the end of the century the world would be out of oil - and we would need another source of power for our vehicles. I mention this only to point out that pundits often get things very wrong. Obviously they NEVER expected the USA to again reach 10 millions barrels a day production - or just how Russia would also do that too. What they forgot is that engineering would progress and new methods and new options would surface - as will happen in the rest of this century going forward. WE really do NOT have any idea what will happen - solar powered cars could be developed for instance.

What would the 911 be without its Super Beetle engine noise?

ICE are the villian de jour. Wrongfully so, over 99% of their emissions are now CO2. The same stuff we exhale and plants turn into oxygen. Also, energy density is also superior. Having said that I hope solid state batteries or fuel cells can be the future. As long as the consumer decides. Not Totalitarian Marxists hiding behind GREEN flags. Do you think GOVT limo's and the like will run on batteries? Not likely, they will cite national security BS to continue to ride around in big ICE flexible motors....

By now it should be pretty clear to even the most most near-sighted ludite what the future of the automobile will look like.
