Almost HALF Of All Model 3 Production Was Sold In California

According to the latest reports, almost half of all Model 3 sold during the first half of the year were sold in California.

Tesla reported 26,631 Model 3 deliveries (U.S. and Canada), while the number of new registrations in California was 12,674 for the period (or 47.6% of total volume or 53% of total volume in the U.S.).

Similarly, California represents roughly half of the total all-electric car sales in U.S. – 33,015 at market share of 3.3%. In the second quarter, BEVs began a march to outsell hybrids:

In the NYC area (NYC, NJ, Hamptons, Long Island) there are really not many Model 3's on the roads.

I have seen maybe 10-20 total in the past 9 months. They are very rare.

I believe it. This is super nerdy, but when I had to drive home in peak traffic last week I counted the Teslas on the road. My commute is 28 miles long.

Model S - 61
Model 3 - 31 (!)
Model X - 18

The last time I did this was maybe two months ago and there were 15 Model 3s.

The Fremont factory parking lot has hundreds owned by employees for sure. I do know a couple people that work there.

You know what Autospies needs more articles on Tesla and Musk, I just don't think you are covering them enough. ;)

At my work there are 4 now, about 1,100 people employees. I notice they usually opt for covered parking vs plug-in, nobody wants to get into a 120 degree car after work.

Despite all the hate I would definitely consider one, but my commute is too short to get anywhere near a payoff on gas savings.

Temp doesn't really matter much , you can use the app to pre-cool the car before you get in. I have free charging at work, but it is more convenient to plug in at home. They probably don't need to charge every day either with 310 miles of range.

A lot of offices in Silicon Valley have free charging now. Go to Chargepoint and filter for FREE. Where can you get free gas again?

The primary reason my co-workers in CA have purchased EVs is so they can drive solo in the carpool lanes. Makes the commute much, much faster. Economically it's not cheaper than a hybrid, but is worth it for the time saved.

That's no longer a great reason for Northern California. The carpool lanes are just as slow as all the other lanes now except for a tiny stretch on 101 with with a double carpool lane on each side.

@SanJoseDriver - Disregard the negative posters. California continues to grow and attract the best and the brightest minds. This is why so many BEV are sold there and why the charging networks will continue to grow in the state. This can only be a help to those wishing to launch BEV products of their own. A common plug type would be a good thing to agree on amongst all the automotive brands.

You're really full of your asinine self. Everyone who lives in California sees the exodus. But what can we expect from someone who is an arrogant, north-of-the-border hypocrite who lectures Americans with his "I know better because I'm Canadian" hypocrisy? So now you're an expert on California too? Could you be more arrogant or hypocritical? Yeah you probably can.

@MD - Do your research my friend. The rate at which California's population has grown has slowed somewhat closer to the national average. But it is still growing YOY.

There is absolutely no net exodus, they can't build housing fast enough. If there was net migration, prices would be going down. Real estate prices in San Jose rose by 20% last year, making it the fastest appreciating metro in the United States. The average home is well over $1 million now and it hot spots like Palo Alto, you're looking at $3-4 million for a small house.

Don't agree with Kamala. Would make more sense to reduce restrictions and regulations on development and increase supply which will drive prices down. CA also needs more small unit options (studios, microlofts, etc).

@CC do YOUR research. The growth rate in the California population is from unchecked illegal immigration and anyone who lives in California regardless of political persuasion sees that. Moreover, if you look at demographics, people with money are fleeing California at an alarming rate, taking with them their investments. You remain ill-informed. You are also ridiculously arrogant to ask like you know more about California than Californians themselves. But then again, what's new. Your hubristic hypocrisy is getting out of control like TheSteve's did. Shall we assume you're about to have a psychotic break like he demonstrated here too?
