#MontereyCarWeek: Audi's PB18 e-tron Is A Different Kind Of Supercar, But Is It YOUR Kind Of Supercar?

If at first you dont succeed, stop thinking logically and design something so white-hot radical it burns a hole straight through the middle of the drawing board and lands smouldering on the floor. We can assume that’s the brief at Audi’s ‘Design Loft’ in Malibu, California, which has dreamt up this concept for a shooting brake electric hypercar inspired by Audi’s dominant decade in Le Mans racing. This 23rd century rollerskate is the Audi PB18 e-tron.

Ignore the underwhelming name, merely initials referring the car’s unveiling at the Pebble Beach festival of brightly dyed corduroy and champagne pricier than liquid platinum. Concentrate instead on details like a low, mid-mounted 95kWh solid-state battery, capable of accepting a full, 361-mile charge in only 15 minutes, thanks to 800-volt charging capacity. Or, if you’re less stung by range anxiety, a claimed 0-62mph sprint of two seconds flat. That comes courtesy of three electric motors: one shared between the front wheels, and one each for the rears, developing a combined 661bhp, but capable of short ‘overboost’ spurts up to 753bhp. So far so ‘generic electric supercar concept’.

Ferrari take note, you can build/design an exotic SUV without it looking like the FF...
Unfortunately this surprise will never see more than the sunshine in California...Audi is too timid to build anything truly interesting... look at their entire line up and into future models... Snooze fest...

-Agreed. Bertone is calling collect, from the 1973 Turin Auto Show.

While supercars are nice - since most will never even tough the surface of a road - much less a Track - You really need to be a lot richer than I am in order to care about them. I would never want to build an indoor space to have such a "car" as well. One can get on the road performance from cars that are far less than a Million dollars - that is quite satisfying.

I am quite content with my S650 Maybach - and surprisingly - I saw another Maybach on the road today.

This looks like actually a hint of two compleletly different design concepts. Audi concepts are notorious for this. The front half is going to be the the inspiration for an R8 successor as well as point to future Audi grill design. The rear is for hatchback designs that will cue future A7, Q5, and Q7/Q8/Q9/ Q 10 1/2. BTW, I still have yet to hear about how the entire VAG group is going to secure enough battery packs for competing in the EV marketplace since their strategy is going for 3rd party battery build and recharge network. If you want to guarantee your own battery supply you always go direct manufacturing like Samsung, Apple, and Panasonic.... and, Tesla. As far as recharge network, the only network that publicy states it is not a profit center is Tesla. All the others simply gouge you for $$$.
