Analysts Walk Away Impressed By Tesla's Tent Production For Model 3
The road to the future runs through Fremont. Tesla has always been the leader of the EV revolution, and (despite the media nonsense about “Tesla-killers”) that isn’t going to change any time soon. Tesla’s future depends on achieving long-term profitability, and that depends on sustaining volume production of Model 3. So the burning question of the day is, what’s really going on at the Tesla factory?

this article confirms my observations about my own Model 3- panel gaps, fitments, etc are on par with Audi, BMW, etc now. My Model 3 is a July build, and I notice no appreciable difference between the panel gaps on my Audi S4 (since sold). It seems the problems noted in the early builds (January, etc)have been fixed. Reliability has not been an issue, the only hiccup being my old iPhone 6 Plus being on its last legs these days and not syncing at times with the car- my new Wrangler uConnect has the same issue with my phone. A new iPhone Xs this fall will fix that.

Did you get RWD or AWD/Performance? Getting mine in the next couple weeks (AWD), it will be tent-built, hoping for no issues. All the ones in my company parking lot are RWD, so I haven't had the chance to see or drive one of the ones built in GA4 yet.

When you pay over $50,000 for a car - you expect Quality - and you should get it.
However - there are LOTS - tens of thousands - of people who put up what has turned out to be essentially a no interest load to Tesla - for the purchase of a Model 3 - who are still waiting because Tesla cannot make that model profitably for that price.

These "orders" should have been handled in the order in which they were received - yet Tesla is taking orders for the High Line Model 3's at over $50,000- while not even considering producing for those who paid their money.

I will not be doing business with Tesla and I do not recommend them.

San Jose, mine is a 311 mile battery rear-wheel drive Premium, base $49k. Mine out the door w/ registration, tax was $55k. Very happy with performance, faster off the line by a good amount than my previous S4. Premium Sound system sounds different than the Bang & Olufsen in my S4- more focused sound, not "ambient" like the S4... I like both sound systems in their own ways. The Model 3 Performance will be a beast- overkill for my needs at this time in my life. From what I read a few weeks ago, the profit margins on my model are around 30% and profitability increasing fast in time for the Base 211 mile Model 3 to be rolled out late this year or early next.

I am wondering if you also condemn Jaguar and Porsche and Audi ,etc etc etc for taking deposits now and eventually also most likely producing only top-tier optioned units when they first roll out? Porsche has stated that their EV will be priced along the lines of a Panamera- but they never said Which Panamera... the base model for around $90k or the top of the line for $200k+?

@rockreid when was the last time that Jaguar, Porsche, Audi, etc. took a half million deposits, then never delivered the car, but did deliver one that was double the price and sold them to people who were not on the waiting list.

The TWO!! Tesla dealers in the Hamptons (East Hampton and Southampton, NY) will tell you that they can get you a Model 3 (current $60K RWD spec of course) in about 3 months.

Forget about the going private non-sense, I'd like an update on how big the order backlog still is. Radio silence for a while - I suspect a lot of deposits went back to the lucky customers!
