STUD OR DUD? Uncloaked Pair Of The 2019 911s Caught In The Open
We must be inching closer to the highly anticipated reveal of the next-generation 911 taking into account these two prototypes barely had any camouflage while undergoing final testing out in the open. Porsche slapped on some black tape on the front spoiler lip as well as on those sleek taillights reminding us of the Taycan. Although it may not seem like it at first, but both test vehicles have stickers applied onto the headlights to partially hide the actual design, although we can perfectly see the familiar four-point LED setup.

There are some pretty subtle styling improvements that make the transition to the superwide tail less awkward. I've never been a fan of the look of the 911--or anything about it really--but this is quite nice and rather attractive.

The only issue I have is the every increasing wheel size. I think Car and Driver did a test years ago where they measured the performance of a car with 17', 18', 19" and 20" wheels. They found that big wheels add weight. This dulls performance and increases fuel economy. I don't think a little car like a 911 really needs a 21" wheel.

I prefer the current 991.2 rear end a lot more. Also, it's said that the new 911 is getting the Cayenne's and Panamera's "Fingerprint + Dust Magnet" black glass center console. Aside from the obvious lack of real controls, some of the simulated buttons have haptic feedback, while others don't, just to arbitrarily irritate you.

I wish I had the funds to get my dream 911's now, before the model change-over.

Call the dealer and get a CPO. The prices are often Cayman-ish with very low miles. Once the new one arrives, the CPO prices on the old one should drop even more. I forget where you are on the planet, but if you were in Seattle, I'd know the guy to send you to.

He doesn't have this weekend off either.

@MD- Spot on. Newish is always best. CPO status is the best of all. I would never pay new prices for an exotic car. They all depreciate like stones. Some worse than others. They always have very little miles on them as well. Passenger seats never get used... Etc.

It looks more and more like a shortened Panamera. That's not a good thing.

I'm actually surprised by your response. I honestly thought you'd be a huge fan of the look. You know I'm not a 911 fan even remotely, but I'm seeing a home run here and only wish I owned a Porsche dealer. Do you believe Porsche has messed up the styling enough to impact sales?

I am assuming that the lower body cladding front and rear will be body colored. If not it looks clumsy-especially the front vents. But overall this is a good looking car. Its too early to really judge the dashboard as you are not seeing all of it. However the 5 gauge dails look a little bit like a design detail rather than a focal point of the dash they way they used to. Its almost as if there is the same 13 inches of room to fit Audi dials or Lamborghini dials etc. But I do like the center consul coming up more on an angle although the transmission selector has gone teeny tiny. I gas that is the all the rage these days as other sports cars and supercars really stress the steering wheel paddles.
