Jaguar Might Replace The F-Type With A Mid-Engined Hybrid Super Car

Despite leaving the Jaguar C-X75 mid-engine concept at the bottom of a river in a subpar James Bond movie, Jaguar still reportedly has plans to put a mid-engine supercar into production. It could replace the current F-Type and reportedly be called the J-Type.

According to Auto Express, with unclear sourcing, Jaguar wants to replace the F-Type with a hybrid mid-engine supercar utilizing some of the battery and motor technology it developed for the all-electric I-Pace. The hybrid Acura NSX is reportedly the benchmark for the new car, with dreams of it also taking on the McLaren 570S and Audi R8. From Auto Express:

C'mon. There can't possibly be a business case for eliminating the F and replacing it with a "supercar".

The F Type has been a sales dud from day one. They designed the vehicle planning for one price point and then discovered it was too expensive to build and changed the price point.

Jaguar needs a Corvette rather than an NSX.

They should reposition the F Type with a $50K base coupe that would (1) sell well and (2) sell well enough that it would restore some of the "Itsa Jag" mentality. The F Type was a colossal aim in the wrong direction.

That makes a lot more sense and they have a pretty good platform to develop it on with the XE. If they insist on some halo car then do an E type continuation model.

$5,000 for a few million lines of computer code?

The mature Jag consumers will not or cannot enter or exit a car that low. Jaguar is smoking that stuff again.

Yes. It's a $100K sticker when it should be a $60K sticker.

it is a pretty car but its rather heavy and it is priced too close to Porsche. Its not a bad car but its clearly not as good to drive as a Porsche and it lacks the agility and handling of a Porsche. I think valhallakey is right. The XE platform would make the most sense. It would be a slightly bigger car but it could stay at a lower price point.

I know a few guys that got the F type 80-90k cars with lease payments of 6-700 per month with like 2k total out of pocket through leasing companies.
