2019 Acura ILX Loses The "Beak" - Would You Now Consider It?

2019 Acura ILX Loses The

The Acura ILX has been updated for the 2019MY, with the facelift model obtaining the brand’s new corporate face without the steal beaks that was first previewed by the Precision Concept.

Acura says that the compact sedan “is all-new from the A-pillars forward”, featuring the brand’s latest signature styling cues that include the diamond-shaped grille, multi-LED headlights and more heavily sculpted hood.

I think the "beak problem" has been solved almost completely in the new cars so Acura will be ok.

Honda Civic is still a more compelling car and a better drive.

Indeed - and it is also priced far less than the Acura as well

so we have gone from a beak to a bill. Overall it can be any Asian car, nothing special AT ALL.

I don't disagree with this statement but the same can really be said for the A3 and A-Class Sedan when compared to VWs or other European brands, outside of the 4-rings or 3-pointed star. Today it is very hard to distinguish upper-trim levels of non-premium brands vs. entry-level offerings from premium brands.

Acura needed to do a re-work of the interior as well. I get that this is just a refresh, but the ILX already had one last year? the year before? This needed to be a total redesign to separate it from the very competent Civic.

The Civic Si has more power and a manual transmission. It may not have all of the amenities, but it seems like a superior value. And its interior is superior in design.

Right, exactly my point.

This is the old Civic which itself was a mild remake of the previous Civic which was the Civic before it restyled. This car is OLD under the styling.

Acura:

Kill the RLX and the TLX and replace it with a car between them in size, but just below the TLX in price and call it Legend.

Kill the ILX and replace it with a Civic-based competitor to the Subaru WRX and call it Integra.

I see you got some negative votes for your ideas there. I like them. I think Acura is probably the only Japanese "premium" brand that has some favorable individual car name recognition, they should use it. In the US Cadillac desperately needs to do the same IMHO. I'll give you a positive vote to get you back to 0 :)

@valhallakey I get negative votes from the likes of TomM, TheSteve, Carloslassiter and so on with the hate brigade who think--because they are so fragile--that down voting me will make me sad.

What they don't get is that they had to waste their time to respond to me even to down vote. What they don't get is that they are so enmeshed with me that they are compelled it respond. It's pure psychological dysfunction on their part.

There is a place for an alternate styled Civic that has a mature upscale vibe. The issue though will there be sufficient sales. Maybe the next sedan should sized between the Accord and Civic, possibly the Insight chassis.

Yup, it's MUCH better looking without the beak. I still don't find the styling appealing, though.

What Honda needs to do is allow Acura to do its own version of the Type R in a more conservative suit and offer an automatic.

That’s a great idea. They need to rejuvenate their performance roots.
