Ford Stops Advertising Sedans, Attention Turns To Trucks And SUVs
As Ford Motor Co.'s car cull takes effect, its dealer network will have to figure out how to sell any remaining Blue Oval-badged sedans without the help of national advertising campaigns.

Ford has ended all nationwide, or Tier 1, marketing for the Fiesta, Focus, Fusion and Taurus and also is dialing back regional spending in certain markets -- even though the Fusion will remain in showrooms for at least the next two years. Mark LaNeve, Ford's vice president of U.S. marketing, sales and service, said the automaker plans to redeploy that money on vehicles such as the Mustang, EcoSport and a slew of next-generation utilities coming by the end of the decade.

I do not remember even seeing a Taurus advertisement in a LONG LONG time so this is no surprise. ANd while Ford had some commercials for the Nationwide - the ones with cars normally did not feature a particular one. So Ford gave up on cars a couple of years ago as far as I am concerned

Nailed it. The fact that the Taurus still be such a antiquated machine says it all.

I understand what Ford is doing but it still seems so drastic a move to walk away from cars in the US. Will be interesting ten years from now to look back and evaluate this decision for better or for worse.

We've dialed back our orders for those cars already, so assuming this is true, we will virtually stop stocking what isn't advertised.

It is amazing that Ford was not capable of selling and making enough of a profit for sedans and hatchbacks in the one of the largest car markets in the world where other seems capable of doing so. Maybe in the long run Ford is right and everyone else is wrong. I thought the Fusion and Focus were competent cars that did not stand out. Maybe it was a styling thing.
