Taycan Caught Strutting It's Stuff At The Nurburgring -Will It Be The Porsche You Were Expecting?

Porsche has been very vocal about its aim to ensure that the Taycan, its first all-electric car, would be at home on the racetrack. Porsche’s gasoline-powered cars are famed for their performance and their “soul,” and the company has maintained that the Taycan would be no different.

This means that the upcoming electric four-door sedan would have to be proficient and tuned enough to handle the world’s most challenging racecourses. To accomplish this, Porsche has been taking some of the Taycan’s camouflaged prototypes to one of Germany’s most iconic tracks — the Nurburgring. The intense, twisting 12.93-mile racetrack is famed for its difficulty, resulting in an adage which states that “if a vehicle runs on the Nurburgring, it can run anywhere.”

Sorry - I never really liked Porsche vehicles. The early rear-engine ones were a handful to drive at the very least - the VW based ones were - well - not worth of the name and mostly underpowered - ANd I still do not see much regarding having Full Size sedans - a place Porsche is simply not compatible with. Many later Porsches looked like places to hang extras - a wing here - and air dam there -but hardly congruent with a styling theme.

Yes - I suppose that they could eventually produce something I might consider - but at my age - that is not saying much

I'm not a big Porsche fan, but the Taycan is quite intriguing. I cannot wait to see it.

Not sure why their first EV is a sedan. Should have been a SUV.

@supermoto - Because it is a Porsche. The SUV will come. And as they said the 911 would be the last to go electric, a performance sedan that is electric is the closest thing they could make that still stands within reach of the brand DNA and core values. Better to trot that out in Geneva vs an SUV. This is the same reasoning behind why Lamborghini chose to show the Asterion sedan coupe concept as a BEV vs an SUV.

Indeed. A coupesedan is more sportcar-ish (sic). Then you factor in that Audi--which is sold usually at the same dealer--will have an EV crossover and it makes perfect marketing sense.

I wish Lamborghini would have done the Estoque. I would love for something as sublimely perfect looking as the Asterion to get produced as well. How a company can style those masterpieces and then bowel purge out the Uterus crossover is beyond me.

@MD- I wholehearted agree. The Estoque was a dream ride and I would have green-lighted that before the Urus. I am sure Ferrari will show the world what a sporting SUV should look like. The Asterion was very cool too. If Aston Martin can plan to have a 7 car lineup so can Lamborghini. Lastly, as the Aventador is almost cartoonish in width now, I would love to see them go back to a Muria sized supercar with a 3.0L V-12 and battery assist.

Matt have you ever considered doing stand up? I'm crying over here with some of your comments... "tammie", "SpiceLatte girls"... bowel purge... keep it coming... I agree the Estoque has "classic" written all over it... such a shame so many truly gorgeous concepts end up in a warehouse somewhere while tan-boring makes it to production.

I'm incredibly verbal in real life. I'm known for being dead blunt in what I say. My wife is 100% like me in that regard. Teachers didn't know what do do with me in high school because I'm bright and direct. I got my first masters degree done faster than usual be being blunt with the person that had to approve an overload. Basically, it's my money I'll be wasting if I fail and if I don't then you will approve future overloads. Martini time at the ranch at the outdoor kitchen is always amusing. I entertained my way into the charms of benefactors who then got behind me and gave me all sorts of opportunities. Then you factor in that I have 6 sons and you can imagine to crass fest that erupts.

@xjug1987a I live next to a highway that runs for about three miles before it dead ends at a park. You'd love a blast from my house in a Sagaris to the park, drift an U turn, and blast back to the house. If you came, I'd have my brother do cocktails. He's a much nicer version of me...until you cross him. I am actually and fairly nice person in real life but I tend to have a switchblade kind of wit. What part of the country are you in?
