IF You Were To Select ONE Brand For Your DREAM Garage, Which Marque Would It Be?

Just had one of those long drives with a car-loving mate when the conversation turned to a ‘fantasy garage’. Or ’desert island cars’, if you prefer.

The question, this time: if you had to drive cars made by only one manufacturer for the rest of time, which company would it be?

The rules: you’d have access to any single car maker’s whole back catalogue, any time you wanted. Fuelled, working, free. Opening your garage door would be like stepping into a particular brand’s museum. You’ve got the life you have now, but pick the car you want to drive that day, and off you go...

I cannot honestly say that I could choose a marque give that all have the up and down cycles. I know and I've known several collectors well and they've been "a little bit of everything" types. I'm partial to TVR, Jensen, Triumph, and Ford, but a nice Camaro or Corvette is a delight. Of those I'd pick TVR, but then I'd lose the Jensen Interceptor, Triumph TR6, TR8, and...

IT clearly says ONE brand - your reply is not within parameters

TomM Let me explain something to you. When you use my tactics against me, you prove several thing: (1) lack of imagination, (2) you're childish and petty, and (3) you make yourself look foolish by comparison.

Never ever USED any of YOUR personal Tactics Matt -

THese things were started centuries ago by lots of other people

It is a laugh that you would even claim them to be YOURS - but then - that is the Dementia setting in.

I'd definitely take a Yugo. I love the Iron Curtain chic of Yugos. Speaking of styled-by-axe hatchbacks. I recently purchased a 1978 VW Rabbit and a wrecked 93 Corrado for the VR6 and transmission (which is almost a bolt in job to the Rabbit). The Rabbit is scheduled for the body shop for a complete tear down, welding of body braces, and refinishing. Bolting in bigger brakes is easy. Zoom zoom in a few months.

There was a recently published demographic analysis of the Top 100 collectors in the world called The Key. Doing this from memory so the exact number could be off, but the order is correct. The number 1 marque that is in the collection of 84% of the collectors is Ferrari, no surprise there. #2 at about 28% is Alfa Romeo, #3 at about 27% is Maserati, #4 is Bugatti at around 26%, followed at #5 by Porsche approximately 25%.

Around 50% of the top 100 are from the USA, the #2 country is a bit of a surprise ....Italy. All of the top 20 except 1 are over 60.

I am very slowly selling off cars in three collections by men who are too old to drive any of them anymore. The irony is that collections have value as long as you're not selling them, but if you're selling more than one or two, people expect a bargain. Some I'm keeping for myself which is my commission. The cars are mostly American 50s and 60s cars, a passel of TVRs and Jensen Interceptors (keeping them), a mongrelized Iso Grifo (keeping), some Triumphs (meh), and 3 Lamborghinis (old ones).

I kind of think I would pick BMW or Ford. They both have a wide variety of cars although not so much super cars... BMW has their M1 I suppose, but the 507s, CSLs, 7 series M models... would keep you entertained for a long time and you have all the practical ones you need as well in their SUVs and wagons, only thing missing from BMW is a Truck. Ford also has a lot of interesting cars, especially their GT40 & derivatives thereof, Mustangs of many stripes, Thunderbirds, trucks, SUVs etc...

One brand? Porsche! I'd get..
- Cayenne: Very respectable SUV!
- 911 Turbo: Exceptionally capable supercar, and well-behaved, too!
- Panamera: A really nice sedan for when you want to get somewhere in comfort and style.

(I could skip the Panamera and still be a happy camper)

Mercedes. Could have the iconic 300SL, the exotic Stirling Moss, a G-Class, or even a Maybach. They have a very diverse catalog for whatever suits your desire at the time.

No surprises here, it's going to be Tesla for me. I really hate that I'm going to have to sell the rarest Model S trim to upgrade to a new 3, but can't afford to keep them both. Model S 40, only about 200 of them left that weren't upgraded to 60s.
