Who Should Worry? Chances Are Bugatti's Second Model Will Be A SUV

It looks like Bugatti is beginning to have a change of heart as far as adding a second model to join the Chiron. In recent years, the Molsheim-based marque has been refuting rumors about the possibility of launching a sedan or an SUV, but now company CEO Stephan Winkelmann mentions time has come for an addition to the Bugatti lineup: “For me the brand is ready to do more than one model.”

However, it won’t happen right away as parent company Volkswagen Group has bigger fish to fry right now. Bugatti’s boss says he is waiting to receive the necessary investment in order to develop the second model, but it’ll take a while since VAG is making “significant investments in projects like autonomous driving and electric cars.”

How many times can VW reimagine the same vehicle....Just about no one needs to be worried...the price of this thing will probably be close to a million dollars.

Right. Considering how Bentley kinda botched their opportunity to offer a truly opulent-looking SUV - before Rolls Royce - I'm thinking nobody's really worried.

If M-B decides to offer a GLE Coupe-based Mercedes-Maybach SUV or a GLS-based version, VW should be worried.

Still another multi-million dollar offering - who should worry - no one. THe Chiron Starts at over 3 Million - an SUV would have to be similar if not more - meaning that even no one who posts here will even be able to get on the waiting list for the vehicle IF they produce it - much less actually drive one. These are billionaires cars - or will end up - as usual - in collections and many will never even see public pavement touching their tires.

@TomM Your assumption is that no one here is billionaire, or a multi-millionaire.

It will need to be a unique vehicle with a long wheelbase and ample room for rear passengers. I can't see it being built with the same platform for the Q7. If it is going to be over the top, it will be on a bespoke platform.

Worry? Bugatti buyers have no worries and its perceived competition has no worries. It has been reported that the average Bugatti owner owns 64 cars. There is always room in the sheikh's, tech billionaire's, scion's, dictator's, business magnate's, Hollywood mogul's, plutocrat's, diva's, drug trafficker's or their playboy son's garage for one more.

Why not? VW Group has to amortize that Touareg/Q7/Cayenne tooling somehow.

If 500 or 1,000 per year were sold, it would be a success.

It would need to be priced in the $900,000 to $1,500,000 range I think, so as not to dilute the Bugatti's brand prestige.

A hypercar selling for millions has been proven to be solid business case, but a SUV selling for the same price they need to think very, very hard on the correct strategy.

Welcome to Grammar Corner

It's "AN SUV" not "A SUV". When an acronym is used, the letters are said and not the words they represent.
