Toyota To Share Hybrid Secrets With The Chinese
Toyota Motor Corp. is preparing to divulge details of the hybrid-car engine technology it pioneered with the Prius to China in an attempt to catch up with rivals in the world’s biggest auto market.

Chinese officials asked Toyota to share its gasoline-electric technology to help local companies meet stricter emissions targets, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg, asking not to be named because the talks are private. Seeing this as a chance to make inroads in China, Toyota has engaged in advanced talks to license its hybrid system to Chinese carmaker Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd., two of the people said.

BIG MISTAKE. If you give Chinese a piece of anything they will quickly take the your piece away so that they have the entire pie. They cannot be trusted.

Those who do business in China would know better, but they are on a completely different plan. They are going to electrify transportation. Huge bus fleets are already run on electricity and more come online daily. They want 10M electric cars on the road. All of this is possible without the huge political influence of big oil (very good) and a command and control economy run by a central government (not so good).

@MD It is evil actually, I said "not so good" to be kind to any Chinese posters. But for getting things done nationwide, it seems to be the most efficient way to go with central planning and control. They may become a real democracy one day, but it might take 100 years and or a civil war.

Bog mistake to give any technology to Geely... Geely already has tier one automaker knowhow, thanks to engineering/design resources and supplier contracts from Volvo. The Chinese have access to vast amounts of rare earth materials needed for batteries, and can also undercut on the manufacturing side if the build in China.
