Laguna Seca Laps Prove The Jaguar XE SV Project 8 Is Fast, VERY FAST

We already have an idea of just how fast the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 is but the British super saloon just added another record title to its resumé; that of the fastest production sedan around Laguna Seca.

With Randy Pobst sitting behind the wheel, the XE SV Project 8 managed to lap the Californian track in just 1:37.54, beating the Cadillac CTS-V’s lap time by a full second. Last year, the super-aggressive Jaguar managed a 7:21.23 at the Nurburging.

purpose built as a racer (European version available with roll bar and lightweight seats) and more than double the cost of CTS-V to save a second? Hmm.. Only 300 to be built. Also only 4-5 sec/lap faster than a 2008 E90 M3? with 170 HP less. Yes it has meaningful performance but I think unlikely to impact sales of Jag XE.

Incredible! Only 1 second slower than Randy's lap in a 458 Italia.

As a comparison for EV fans, the record Tesla Model 3 lap at Laguna was 1:49 with racing slicks (1:54 with stock tires).

The record unfortunately was shortlived for Jaguar. Today a stock Model 3 Performance without the Track Mode or enhancements for track duty beat the Jag's record by 1.4s in the shaky hands of an amateur. Wait till the Track Mode becomes available, tracks around the countries will have a new dominant player.

Yup, 1.46 is the new official EV record. A Model S was also hit 1.43, but it's not clear if it was a stock car.
