Is The New Supra Destined To Be A Porsche Hunter Or Simply Be The Hunted?

It’s been a long time coming. It has been 25 years since the launch of the last Toyota Supra, way back in 1993. The internet was barely out of diapers back then, and all you really needed in life was a manual gearbox, a turbocharged 2JZ engine, a gigantic hoop spoiler on the trunk and your favorite tuner on speed dial.

The A80 Supra was a milestone car—fun, fast, not terrifyingly expensive, and almost endlessly tune-able. It was the apogee of the eighties and nineties rise of the Japanese car industry. Since then? Nothing. Silence. Tumbleweeds.

This will be a very good car but considering weight, power and front engine location I doubt Porsche has any concerns. However, Supra has a long, strong following and will sell, likely in much greater numbers than the Z4 upon which it shares much development.

Porsche hunter my ass. The first year all the Supra fans will purchase it, after that it will be dead on arrival just like the 370Z. At least you can get a 370Z for around $40K but $60k for a souped up toyota 86?

Spies #9 is a troll asking such needlessly provocative questions.
Why doesn't he compare the Nisan 370Z to the Lamborghini Aventador?

It is not going to he what the original Supras were...near supercar performance at a much more affordable price. Im sure it will drive well as most BMWs do, but it will not be anything special.

No one can hunt Porsche, so this is a stupid question to start with

I wonder how much more hp would the Supra be over Z4. 400 would be proper to differentiate the performance segment at least.

If so that'll be unfortunate, cuz to carry the Supra badge it should at least start with 4.

The Toyota badge will limit it EVER being considered a Porsche competitor. The Supra would be a very credible Mustang/Camaro competitor given the Toyota badge.
