Something You SHOULD KNOW About The All-new Toyota Supra That NO ONE Is Talking About
A friend of AutoSpies, Tim Stevens is in charge of CNET's Roadshow. Having first met at a Porsche event held at Barber Motorsports Park, we hit it off.

A real enthusiast, Tim is the kind of guy that takes his Subaru WRX ice racing. Clearly, he isn't playing around.

This past week I was leafing through my Facebook feed and I came across a picture he snapped at the prototype drive of the all-new Toyota Supra. And, there was a nugget he noted about the Supra no one has pointed out — at all.

If you take a peek of this side-by-side shot, you'll note that the Supra is actually about the same size as the Toyota 86. And the 86 is a small two-door vehicle by modern standards.

As Tim points out, the Supra isn't going to be a "big" car like its elder.

Throw a Toyota turbo four cylinder in it and call it a Celica then kill the horrible GT86.

I hope the Supra doesn't understeer like an FWD car into the corner then the tail loses grip and it slides around like the GT86. Overall that's "neutral" but the way it goes about that neutrality is rather bipolar. The GT86 is an AWD Impreza, minus the front drive shafts and the front suspension moved slightly forward, but the FWD layout is readily apparent.

Reason GT86 understeers is because its weight distribution is heavy up front, 54/46, not because of its AWD-turned-RWD chassis. Put a V12 engine at front of pure RWD chassis with that weight distribution, it'll still steer. That's why Bimmer always brass about 50/50.

The Z4 simply is too small and especially too small for its price.

Toyota did not even have the sense to make the cars different sizes. The Supra has always been a 2+2. Good Grief.

Toyota is lazy. It trusted Subaru--that had ZERO experience in RWD performance cars--to do the GT86 and the result was dumb. Now the Supra comes and it will be overpriced. They should have pulled the Supra off the RCF.

Subaru supplied the engine. Lol.

The GT86 was derived by taking an Impreza, removing the front drive shafts, and moving the front suspension slightly forward. They couldn't move it much because the wide engine is in the way. If you look at engine/suspension shots of the GT86, the FWD architecture is readily apparent. It was a STUPID move that resulted in a moronic design.

IT is rare I ever hear ANYONE saying anything about a Toyota sports "vehicle" - seems like an obvious oxymoron.

Can anyone really take the comments seriously from a person who's tastes in cars are actually experiences of a handme down car from his ageing mum??

Is the Z4 a big car? What did anyone *paying attention* expect?
