Audi Says New e-tron SUV Is By Special Order Only - Expect Delays Of Months Maybe Years Before Delivery
Outside of Tesla, Nissan and Chevrolet, very few automakers seem willing to stock electric cars on dealership (Tesla stores) lots here in the U.S., so news of Audi opting for special-order only for the e–tron is not unexpected.

Audi of America President Scott Keogh attempts to downplay this news and spin it into an advantage, but in all honesty, his words don’t sway our opinion.

Basically, Audi wants to be cautious with the e-tron, which seems to indicate to us that it will be a money loser for the automaker. But here’s what Keogh states:

If you want to spend $80k on an 5 seater EV like the e-Tron, the 5 seater Tesla Model 3 Performance 0-60 will blow the doors off anything other than a $1 mill Hypercar and the order time is just a few weeks. I know which one I'd rather have.

@zlives agree... this will make 0 dent in expanding the market for EVs. Also, expect no impact to Tesla, which is also bad since competition helps drive innovation.

LOL. There will be an impact to Tesla and a very big one. Tesla's fight for survival has now officially started. Mercedes-Benz's EQC is on the way with Porsche and BMW also coming to market within 24 months.

Nobody is making a profit selling EVs. If you are in a hole don't dig deeper. As the current EV leader if Tesla shows a profit for 2 or 3 quarters Audi and others are positioning to crank up the volume to meet market demand which which will then be more evident.

Why does Audi tease the public with a car that is VAPORWARE?

I think most posters forget that folks buying a Tesla passed over all the other offerings. The Taycan and any new Audi will likely do more to cannibalize sales of the ICE equivalent in each brand. Panamera sales will dip as will Q7 etc. I don't see them impacting Tesla sales in the same way that others do. If you really want to know ask a dealer as to what they expect to happen once they have these BEV's to sell in their dealership.

Faulty reasoning.
