DRIVEN: New Larger Audi Q3 Threatens To Redefine the Segment

There are times when Audi, to great fanfare, brings out an all-new car and you look at it or even drive it and go “new, huh, really?” This is not one of those times.

The second generation Q3’s body is bigger by 10cm, better-proportioned and a lot roomier than before. It had to grow really, just to open up a gap between it and the Q2, which arrived late in the old Q3’s life and rendered it largely redundant.

Audi is quickly becoming a dominant player in the smaller end of the luxury crossover market. They have some work to do with the next generation Q7 because Mercedes will destroy the Q7 (and X5) with the new GLE as long as pricing stays in line.

"Still, you can usually trust Audi to do a superb infotainment interface, unimpeachable cabin quality, and refined powertrains. To a greater or lesser extent the Q3 has fumbled all those three."

So....it is "redefining" the segment by failing in its normal strengths? Confused.

Actually, no threat from Audi to redefine the segment. Enters Cadillac XT4 - already larger than the current segment players and the others will now follow suit. Cadillac read this segment correctly and did their homework.

Cadillac... Who cross shops Audi and Cadillac? Cadillac drivers birthdates have BC in the date. Must like Benz and Lexus.

Not counting the old used cars people buy once they can afford them.

This is infinitely more attractive.

Another very strong product from Audi with the new Q3. Look for the new Q3, A6, A7 and A8 to continue boosting Audi's U.S. sales and giving it a strong base for global growth.
