Good Idea? KIA To Keep Performance GT Models Under Brand Name

Kia will continue to sell performance-oriented vehicles but doesn’t plan on following in the footsteps of sister company Hyundai by launching a dedicated performance sub-brand.

Speaking with Autocar, Hyundai-Kia high-performance development boss Albert Biermann said Kia will develop a small fleet of GT models but that unlike the N-branded models from Hyundai, racetrack performance will not be a priority.

Ha, good one! Agree though, not needed, for now at least.

Being that Stingers are currently being deeply discounted, maybe Kia needs to not worry about a performance line but on figuring out their current line.

A cheap Korean car is still a cheap Korean car. THAT remains how the marketplace looks at these cars. ANd the dealers support that because they cannot move the cars until they offer huge cash incentives. The MSRP sticker on most Korean cars is a joke and has little to do with what price it will eventually sell at.

There is no advantage in using still another "Brand" for performance cars - or even higher luxury cars - establishing the reputation of a brand takes decades and most often does not work.

Hey we're doing Genesis.
Hey we're not doing Genesis.
Hey we're doing Genesis but we will sell them from Hyundai dealers.
Hey we're doing Genesis but we will only sell them from stand-alone dealers.
Hey we're doing Genesis but we will sell them from Hyundai dealers
and so on

Several Genesis dealers acquired land for construction and now that Hyundai has pulled the plug, those dealers are in "discussions" with Hyundai for reparations.

Open and then close the door of any Kia to see how hollow, frail and cheap the sound is. Kia used to be cheap to buy which worked with its cheap build quality. But now, Kia has decided to rip off the customer while still delivering a cracker box on wheels.

Sub-brand is just marketing BS. AMGs are not bespoke. They are Mercedes engineered. Ditto M at BMW. Gullible idiots believe that these sub-brands are separate entities when they most decidedly aren't.
