EU Incentive Changes Forces Germans To Discontinue Plug-In Hybrids

German automakers from BMW to Porsche are pulling their plug-in hybrids from sale in Europe after the change from the NEDC standard to the WLTP standard is resulting in them losing incentives.

By changing the standard in Europe, buyers get to see more accurate electric range out of automakers, but the new test cycle is also reducing the official efficiency rating of the vehicles.

They need CO2 emissions below 50 grams per kilometer in order to get the incentives.

I agree with the statement that most Plug-in hybrids simply do not have enough Electric Range to be viable. These cars will need bigger battery packs and about 100 mile range before they become useful.

Even then - these cars do not get better mileage from their ICE support engine so - unless you are buying for the electric range - it makes no sense because of cost.

FYI, the Federal Governemnt subsidizes the Oil industry right here in America, giving them huge tax breaks just because, well....oil. The reason given is that drilling for oil is expensive and not worth drilling without raising prices. So Socialism is involved every time you stick that nozzle into your gas filler. This also means that profits for oil companies are artificially high, and resulting in larger bonus paychecks for oil company CEO’s and executives. So our own oil company $$$ millionaires are also getting big fat socialism payouts. They get money dumped into their pocketbooks, and gas engine users theoretically get lower priced gasoline than without the tax breaks. Sounds right that EV tech get a shot at good ol’ socialism too. If big fat oil execs can get their Socialism, you can make damn sure I get mine too.
