Honda Invests $2.75 Billion Into General Motors Autonomous Driving Program
Honda Motor Co. will invest $2.75 billion into General Motors' autonomous vehicle operations.

The Japanese automaker will receive a 5.7 percent stake in GM Cruise LLC for the investment, which includes an immediate $750 million and another $2 billion for development and deployment of self-driving vehicles over the next 12 years, GM said in a news release on Wednesday.

Eventually - all of these autonomous systems are going to have to communicate and work with each other.

Clearly - Honda believes its own efforts were insufficient in the segment and that they could not come even with even a $3 billion dollar or so investment - so get a partner. I always thought that - at the time - it would have been better for GM to have bought Honda itself - rather than try to clone it with Saturn - and I still believe they could eventually get together on other projects. Note - both GM and Honda are also big in Hydrogen Powered vehicles
