Next Gen Tesla Roadster Caught In The Wild - How Soon Until Porsche Feels the Heat?

It has been a while since we have seen the working prototype of the next-gen Tesla Roadster, but it has now made a rare appearance and several new images have emerged on social media.

The last time we saw Tesla’s new hypercar was at the Grand Basel auto show last month, but it was only a design prototype.

As far as we know, Tesla only has one working prototype of the new Roadster, which was first unveiled last year at the Tesla Semi unveiling event in Hawthorne, California.

Porsche makes the highest profit per vehicle sold, amongst mass-market manufacturers. Tesla has the highest loss per vehicle.

Porsche enjoys a loyal fan base, like Tesla.

Porsche has superb handling, off the track and on. Tesla can't hold a candle to Porsche's fit and finish. Porsche has a well established pedigree form automotive excellence. A recent 911 holds the record at The 'Ring.

Feel the heat? Porsche *IS* the heat :-)

Meanwhile, Tesla needs to stay focused, quarter to quarter, to raise enough cash to keep the lights on.

Tesla has a loyal fanbase as well and there might be some surprises on profitability very soon.

Thanks for the insider tip SanJoseDriver .....

"Tesla has a loyal fanbase as well and there might be some surprises on profitability very soon."

Is that why Tesla's new "Chief Accounting Officer" (i.e. the first person who gets in huge trouble if the books are cooked) quit after a couple of weeks on the job.

What "surprises" could we be expecting?

I think you are confusing the CAO with the CFO. The Tesla CFO actually came back after a couple year hiatus. You wouldn't come back to a sinking ship after you left, would you?

This is at least 2 years off, maybe 3.

I saw the white one at the last annual investor event in Mountain View. The Semi was there too.

It looked super badass in person. I don't understand how the frunk will open based on the prototype, but besides that looks pretty polished.

The VW group has been feeling the heat for several years, via their B of D over their diesel wrong direction and missed EV tech.

The wheel was invented over 5000 years ago, yet today a lot of engineering resources are still dedicated to improving it. What's your point about VAG and EV ? Where is VAG now in the EV field ?

PHEVs are worthless at this point that combine the worst of both worlds into a half-baked product. And what are the sales of the pure EVs? How hard are they really trying?

Bring it on, Taycan looks like the first actual product.

Porsche needs to make an EV hypercar to stay relevant in this rarified field. Sticking to ICE is a lost cause. Porsche already wringed out all it can from ICE with the Turbo S, and that's still a few notches below the Roadster.

@EVisDumb do you really go out of your way to be moronic? Do you really assume Porsche is behind the idiots at Tesla for engineering?

The Porsche 918 Spyder was a one-year project. It was a marvelous engineering feat of its time - but its time has passed - hence my words "stay relevant". Rimac already showed Porsche what a pure EV can do. Knowledgeable people know that.

FWIW, I have a 991 Turbo. It's almost 10 years old, and it was one of the best car a regular guy could buy at the time. But it's already past its time. My car now sits in a corner of the garage while my 2 Model 3s take daily duty. Compared to the Model 3 Performance at half the price, the Porsche feels archaic. The newer versions may have more power and technology, but the fundamental issue with the 911 design and ICE powertrain cannot be fixed.

As for Porsche engineering, yeah they had done great until now. If Porsche is so great and EV is so easy to make, what takes so long for the Mission E to come out given the overwhelming approval from its fan (I was one). It's been more than 3 years since the reveal, yet it is no where to be found on Porsche calendar. And its paper specs are already behind the Model 3 Performance - readily available for anyone interested.

Clever, but that was less than 1% of all the Teslas ever sold. You have to start somewhere, without that there wouldn't be the meteoric rise they are having today.
