That Self Driving Car You THINK You Want Could Eventually Kill You By Making You Fat And Lazy
More than 37,000 over the course of 2017—what would statistically be considered a ‘good year.’ Big tech has a solution: Have the cars drive themselves, free of the distractions, drunkenness, and other human foibles. Flood the roads with autonomous vehicles, and watch collision deaths plummet.

Too bad this lovely narrative has a major plot hole: Blunt force trauma isn’t the only way cars kill. Each year, hundreds of thousands of people die prematurely from breathing exhaust-poisoned air. Even more insidious is how the mere act of sitting in a car for an hour or so each day drastically increases peoples’ risks of developing life-altering—sometimes life-ending—conditions like obesity and heart disease.

THe last time the question was asked - I was the only one here who admitted that there MIGHT come a time when I can no longer drive for myself -and would probably like a car that maintains my mobility. But I am not looking forward to that and prefer to drive till I die.

So - Instead of answering here - Lets have a POLL

HOW MANY OF THE PEOPLE WHO REGULARLY POST HERE ON AUTOSPIES are Waiting in great anticipation for an autonomous car so they will not have to drive anymore - so they can get FAt and Lazy!!!

Not me!

Again Matt -I actually own the real thing - almost 8 inches longer than the S-class

Bought it from a dealer

And I doubt that Mercedes would allow a dealer to take a Maybach badge and put it on a regular S class - YOU again are simply talking nonsense

And Fotto1 - I own a Maybach - Are you going to drive it for me? - I do not have anyone to do that.

The current Maybach is just a LWB S Class trim variation.

Use it or loose it...your acute ability to respond quickly, spacial perspective, eye hand coordination, sense of control, to make quick decisions, mental risk assessment, sensory awareness, adaptation to variables, etc. All the things you learned when learning how to drive will no longer be as sharp or part of your being, no longer needed, lost. For better or worse, only time will tell.

I was wondering how it would take before Autospies wrote an article like this. Mr Pgproud, I totally agree with your assessment, example if a human spends 60 days or more in a room/cave that contains zero light sources their retina will detach from the blind spot, because it isn't in use. The human body is very efficient if a muscle or organ isn't operating optimally or at all the human body is design to get rid of it.

Are we that stupid to think this will make the highway safer? Ask Google, Facebook, Experian and federal agencies how many times they have been hacked. I'm sure these vehicles will have better security the Department of Defense. Idiots!!!!

When I am not able to drive myself and not be able to take care of myself I don't want to be among the living anymore.
My Dad passed away last Summer after a long fight with cancer and I swore to myself to never get to that stage (where you are bed ridden and others have to feed you, clean you and change your diapers).
Hopefully euthanasia becomes legal or I just refuse any treatment.
