What Does The All-new BMW X7 NEED to SUCCEED?
An interesting email popped into my inbox today. Let's just say that a certain automaker plans on revealing an eagerly awaiting product, finally, as of tomorrow evening.

We've been looking forward to this one.

And what do you know? A vehicle that's also been hotly anticipated is the upcoming BMW X7. This will mark the first Bavarian sport-utility that features proper seating for more than five passengers. Given consumer's blood lust for any SUV right now, this is kind of a big deal.

But remember, there's a ton of competition in this large, luxury SUV class. Some names that come to thought:

- Cadillac Escalade
- Land Rover Range Rover
- Lexus LX570
- Lincoln Navigator
- Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class

So, we've got to ask: What does the all-new BMW X7 NEED to SUCCEED in the large luxury SUV category?

To hit the market before the GLS! Then deep discounts and attractive lease rates.

To not have that gigantic chrome "L" on the side of it.

It needs some cosmetic surgery in order to succeed!

Maybe it will be more attractive in person, but right now it appears to be quite ugly.

The Luxury high level runs in cycles - with only a few real participants
WHen a manufacturer achieves Top of the group - that last only for a few years - at which time - the EXCLUSIVITY of the brand has been tainted - so another brand takes over for a while - and the cycle repeats.

Bmw was at the top of the heap for a while - and so it is now below Mercedes -even if only by a small amount. Wait a while - it really has nothing to do with Product -

Looks like the blind Lexus designers migrated over to BMW. Disgusting.

What's worse is Lexus might have a big mouth, but BMW has big nostrils!

It will succeed because it is what the X5 should have morphed into 10 years ago.

Well ugly it is. The Volvo XC90 is the most attractive of the luxury brand large SUVs. And this offering from GMW cannot hold a candle to the XC.

I owned a Volvo in the past ….they aren't reliable at all...Meanwhile my BMW is 14 years old with hardly any issues...I don't if Geely has improved Volvo but that car company has issues

This segment is currently owned by Escalade. The GLS has historically been second to Escalade but its sales have fallen a bit. QX80 and Navigator are also strong players. The X7 has a chance to win some buyers from the GLS in the short term as it is showing some end of life cycle weakness. From seeing the GLE, it looks like MB is improving the interior quality of the SUVs significantly. With a new GLS and Escalade coming in the next couple years this segment will be very competitive. MB will have a much improved interior, and Escalade will have much improved packaging due to the move to IRS and possibly updated powertrains. From the looks of it BMW hasn't done anything to set themselves ahead of the leaders.

Early reports also show that all the GM large SUVs will show attention to detail in all aspects of design that has not been seen in GM vehicles to date. This should worry all the competition in this segment, because GM absolutely owns the large SUV segment in the higher price points with a bunch of lightly rehashed pickup trucks.

I fear the production version will be watered down from the concept version. If they had stuck close to the concept this vehicle would really kick ass.

I've seen it in person, it's pretty close.

If the new X5 interior is anything to go by, the X7 interior will look great. I think most X7 buyers will be past and current X5 owners looking for more luxury and space.

When the Kia Telluride was a concept people said it copied Voloo. But no one is going to say this on the Bimmer since it's not Korean.

The X7 is another stodgy storage crate on wheels. Very hard on the eyes.
