Hey "The Man" this Bimmer outclasses every luxury S.U.V out there with excpetion of space. Another benchmark vehicle from the benchmark auto-maker.

Does anyone think it looks boring... when the first generation came out i was "like WOOOWW!!!", but now it looks to me like the old one with a piece of plastic on the front and uglier lights... too bad
(its still nice though dont get me wrong)

One problem with its "claiming the crown" again is that there are other SUVs out there. For example the Q7 feels like a car on the road (X5's key point), but it can still go offroad (what X5 was criticized for)+ it also looks good.
It will be interesting....

The Lexus LX owns the X5. It's so reliable. Period.

BMW530i, the Lexor LX looks like just another Toyota box with chrome bling bling when compared with any BMW.

The LX and the X5 are in different classes. Also, the LX is redesigned in a few months and will be a 5.7 liter.

BMW buillt this car for it to become the benchmark, and when they want to do something, they do it.

From a pure design standpoint, its the best proportioned SUV in its class, nice lines, great details. It just looks right to me. Look at the Merc ML, what a design nightmare, worse than the first one. No attention to details. The GL is nice but no inspiring design. The Audi is a good challenger, the design is a bit chunky but new and well done. Very nice attention to details. Lexus is not even in the running as the BMW is an enthusiasts machine, the designs are meant for different demographics..I even think the previous X5 is still a nice design and the evolution to the current is a nice step.

Who says it has to be an SUV or have to tow anything, or even go offroad.. if thats what you need buy a Tahoe! For what it is, the DESIGN is top notch, whether its a BMW or not! As for enthusiast machine, from what I have read, it is indeed a performer and up to the standards for what BMW stands for. BMW is regarded as an enthusiasts brand..nothing new there..and ya know, if soccer moms like it or not, it makes no difference to the discussion at hand.

Unless the Sienna can do the 0-60 sprint in less than 8.3 secs (Which I Doubt) it cannot Beat the Current X5 3.0si

And the New X5 3.0si will do the 0-60 sprint in 8.1 Secs

Sienna is so slow that Toyota does not even list its performance figures on the Specification Section on the Toyota Website

Try and Find It If You Can :-)

Try cornering a suggested 30mph freeway on/off ramp at 70mph with your Sienna, then you'll understand.

Again, soccer moms can like anything they want, Lexus or BMW, its just not important to the discussion. Whats your deal with soccer moms anyway? Why is that such a sore point with people?..and if you need to outtow or outrun an X5 i'm sure you will be happy with a Sienna..and probably will never understand the allure of a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc..

The X5 is good-looking, but it doesn't have anywhere near as much presence as the Q7 on the road. The Q7 is the sleekest seven-seat SUV I've ever set my eyes on.

Non-innovating? They've come up with more technology in the last two decades than BMW has in their entire lifespan. Just some random facts: Audi/Horch was the first European brand to offer a V8. Audi was the first brand to offer AWD luxury sedans. Audi revolutionized sedan design back in 1983 with the Audi 5000- it set new standards in aerodynamism, for the entire world. Audi has brought the double-clutch sequential automatic transmission to the masses- and it simply puts SMG to shame, in every respect. Audi was the world's first brand to offer a W12 engine. Audi had FSI direct-injection before any other luxury brand- they've all copied it. I could go on.

To all you who think Bangle didn't touch the new X5 your wrong...his design team re-designed the new X5 for christ sake.

Granted he might not have penned the cars lines (same goes as all of BMW's models), but he did see the final design to be presented to BMW executives.

Also I'm still coming to grips with the idea of taking these high-end luxury S.U.V.s off-road...Even a Range Rover with it's impressive off-road capabilities, most likely won't be seeing much rugged terrain for the very reason...Who wants that wear & tear on a truck costing you 70 grand or more!

Actually, Bangle isn't the guy who's been behind all of the recent BMW "Bangle-ized" designs. His name is Adrian van Hooydonk, and he was the main man behind the 7 Series, 6 Series, 3 Series, and, more recently, the new X5. The only models that were mostly designed by Bangle were the Z4 (which I hate), the X3 (which I hate) and the 5 Series (sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it).

If i were a car designer i would take a 6x2m box, make it shiny, put in a 1.2 diesel and call it Soccer Mom's Car.

It would be even better if they made a law saying Soccer mom's cant have vehicles with more than 2000 ccm engines... they make me sick

Those wheels look great, but those headlights suck.

This article sounds like it was a paid advertisement by bmw. IF anything it will be the acura mdx giving this suv the fits. Besides fit and finish inside is poorer than the Gl, and it looks uglier than the GL too. And i agree with posters above, just another wannabe suv catered for the soccer moms

The Acura? Really? No, seriously? MDX...might as well throw in the VW, Volvo, Pathfinder...and the MDX is not a wannabe suv that appeals to 'soccer moms'?

I've seen two new ones already- they're really quite striking. Although they're kind of Q7 knock-offs, they successfuly convey their own Japanese style. It's a bit like the Infiniti FX.

OK, good point, the last X5 had no storage, and the new one just added 3rd row seats...my guess is storage is not what it should be. (unless you fold down the 3rd row)?

the x3 has a bigger boot than the last x5. that's weird.

Another SUV. I am thrilled. If I saw it on the road I would not even notice the difference.

This is not an SUV. All be it nice and all its a crossover. (big station wagon)
