SUV WARS! Based On LOOKS ALONE, Who Wins? All-new BMW X7 OR Range Rover LWB?
Last night an all-new luxury sport-utility vehicle joined the fray. That would be the long awaited BMW X7.

Joining the BMW X line, the X7 is a large luxury SUV that's aligned with its flagship sedan, the 7-Series. And, boy, does it show on the interior of the all-new X7. Head-to-toe, the X7 is covered in hide and I am sure some would find its interior even more appealing than the current-gen 7. Debuted with a two-tone interior, it certainly looks a bit like a high-end yacht.

But, this begs the question: How does the X7 compare against the competition.

If you ask us, no one puts out a stronger SUV design than the big body Land Rover Range Rover. It has presence, it is universally adored and its interior is brilliant. Sure, it costs an arm and a leg, but it is one of today's ultimate status symbols whereas BMW's struggling to deliver the ultimate driving machines we once knew.

That said, we've got to ask: Based on looks alone, WHICH SUV wins? The all-new BMW X7 or the Range Rover long wheelbase?

X7 looks like a copy of the oldGL (ouside) the RR looks like a RR and i think that is a better looking car.

Range Rover, no question. The nostrils on the X7 are Lexus worthy.

In time, most of the target consumers will be much more accepting of the big Bimmer XUV. BMW was smart to just make a large SUV rather than continue to grow the X5 into some kind of a lengthy wagon-esque thing.

Initially, it's clean & polished. Not unlike the GLS & Range Rover. An M-sport version will probably allow the X7 to shine a bit more however. Basically, it'll will fit-in anywhere. What exterior colors are available?

X7 by a long shot. RR looks like it did 10 years ago, but with the added length of a Hearse.

Despite its looks, the X7. The RR looks too thick because of its tall slab sides whereas the X7 is much better at managing the visual mass. The face of the RR is beyond generic and downmarket looking. The nostrils on the BMW need to be reduced in size 25% and then the face would be pretty much fixed.

Agreed. The Lincoln Navigator looks better.

RR in person has the win. It has real presence and the interior has a truly upmarket feel. Both will be in the service bay frequently. Which looks better on a lift?

the real winner is the service department of each dealer since they both are horrible in reliability

Complete bs...Not a single major issue on my 14 year old BMW SUV..BMW grades well with reliability from JD Power (Albeit not a great survey) as well

Why no 100 pictures of the RR?

Anyway, the RR wins it for me, easily. The exterior has a stately appeal and is attractive in a way an SUV should be. The interior doesn't need special colors and/or fabrics/materials to look special. And it's distinct both inside and out.

The X7 just looks like any other SUV with a big, honking kidney grille up front. The interior looks great in the color combo for the launch car. But when the same interior was introduced in the new X5, in several different darker color combos, it just looked like any other BMW interior, and didn't really distinguish itself against the new GLE or current Q7 interiors.

Let's wait a few months until the new MB GLS is unveiled -

Range Rover best looking - mostly because of its excellent, legacy, styling. Its timeless and has brand equity. The photo shows an older RR - the refreshed Range Rover is even nicer than that one.

GLS is probably visually and functionally the best overall package.

BMW X7 interior is beautiful and I would argue, much nicer than even the Bentley Bentayga. Exterior - Bentayga and X7 are a tie - both are NOT lookers.

GLS and Maybach GLS will be game-changing for the segment.

Wonder how long it will take VW to roll out a Bentley or Audi large, stand-alone SUV? I bet Bentley regrets rushing out the Bentayga which is basically a fancy Q7/Cayenne/Touareg.

Finally - BMW has produced a large car that looks the part - and does not try to look smaller than it is. I suspect it will quickly outsell the 7 series in the USA - if not around the world.

ANd it could give the Range Rover a run for the money although the Rover has a big headstart
