Bold Move? Trump Threatens To Kill Trade Deal With Mexico If It Can't Control Migration To US

President Trump threatened Thursday to summon the military to close the U.S.-Mexico border and upend a trade deal, expressing mounting frustration with a large caravan of migrants from Honduras making its way toward the United States.

In morning tweets, Trump repeated vows to stop U.S. aid to Central American countries that do not disband the caravan and issued a fresh threat to the Mexican government, which said Wednesday that it would treat those in the caravan no differently than it does other migrants.

WE cannot control the number of people who come to the USA from both the south and north right now - and we are still one of the most wealth and powerful countries in the west. Even a Wall would not stop the inflow as long as jobs are available. (and they are)

IF we cannot do it - how does Mexico - which is not among the world leaders -manage to do it?

While I can see Mr. Trumps point - I do not see how this will SOLVE anything.
Maybe we could have all the people trying to get in read all the constant nonsense on Autospies about Tesla - which might make them turn back!

Brilliant move.

As usual TomM is a moron. We most decidedly CAN control the number of people coming into the USA. It's as simple as saying "You can't come in" and then turning people away at the border. it's as simple as reducing the number of work visas. Solving immigration is simple. It's the Democrats that are in the way.

Yeah, those damnable Democrats with their lockstep, mindless majorities in the House and Senate blocking every one of President Trump's initiatives....

Hey, wait....

Sorry - but- as usual - Matt proves that HE is the Moron

THere are thousands of Mexicans who can get back and forth into this country without any concern for the borders or laws - Or Visas and anyone who thinks that is the only way people actually cross the border - by Visas - is truly an Idiot - although I know your alzheimers continues to progress too.

Then there are still more who come by boat- and by the Northern border as well. Making a Law does not control how many people come here - they really do not have any problems circumventing the laws. It is only those who try to come here LEGALLY that are prevented from doing so - that is why we have such a problem with ILLEGAL aliens - they don't cross the border legally to begin with - and YOU - of all people - should know that.

Go back to bed

Actually it is a childish move. It shows the world that the USA's signature on a document cannot be trusted. They are poor business partners and that you should take your business and your dollars elsewhere. IE just like it would in the real world. If there is an immigration issue, deal with it nation to nation. But you may find a great many of the people crossing are not from Mexico. Honduras is a more likely source as they are feeling a corrupt violent state. Other South American states are no treat either. Look it up for yourself.

Dopey Donny and his Devotees simply don't understand commerce. And yeah, I'm saying that about that self-declared "self made" billionaire, go started getting a fortune from daddy at age age, and continued well into his adulthood. The same guy whose "business savvy" and "art of the deal" earned him HALF of what daddy's money would have return if he had dumped it into the DOW or NASDAQ and eaten Cheetos all day while watching Faux News/

These folks are simpletons who think trade wars are good, alienating your biggest trading partners is good, getting the upper hand over everyone else if good, my way or the highway is good, bluster and swagger is good, etc., etc.

That's what you get when the lowest rung of the Internet's comments section gets to run a country for a while. As radical as you might think my statements to be, I foresee a day when these very same people may even refer to Nazis as "Fine People." That's how clueless they are :-/

To get a better understanding of why Dopey Donny and his followers seem so clueless about... well... anything, the following quote nails it:
_____

"Donald Trump, champion and avatar of the shallow state, has won power because his supporters are threatened by what they don't understand, and what they don't understand is almost everything. Indeed, from evolution to data about our economy to the science of vaccines to the threats we face in the world, they reject vast subjects rooted in fact in order to have reality conform to their worldviews. They don't dig for truth; they skim the media for anything that makes them feel better about themselves. To many of them, knowledge is not a useful tool but a cunning barrier elites have created to keep power from the average man and woman."

The wall hasn't happened thanks to the Demo-Rats who don't want to cut off the flow of illegals who will vote for them multiple times in Sanctuary Cities and States.

The US (and Canada) desperately need Voter reform. No citizenship and documentation to prove it -no vote and NO EXCEPTIONS. Be done with these BS games already and punish the rogue states who don't comply

We have taken in enough riffraff ensuring our welfare coffers will be drained and our resources taxed to the hilt to support these "Unusual Immigrants" (Liberal Spin for illegal economic border hoppers fleeing from imminent US deportation).

Canada needs a wall too and to enforce our laws rather than play political immigration games at the expense of our identity and security.

@ricks0me They have come to Canada too. And under the UN agreement we signed regarding refugees - people being persecuted for religion, ethnicity, being on the wrong side of a civil war, we have to take them in. And we do.

Here's a thought for the Trumpanzees, and other readers: America is a fabulously prosperous country, and even more so when compared to Mexico. America is also a technically advanced nation, and even more so when compared to Mexico. America has the most powerful military on the planet. Mexico? Don't make me laugh. America also has some of the sharpest minds around, including in the security sector. Judge for yourself as how you think Mexico compares. Following me so far?

So far, the great and powerful nation of The United States of America has been unable to stop illegal immigration from Mexico. Even in the nearly 2 years that Dopey Don has been king, still no wall, still no stop of illegal Mexicans entering the country.

So who in his right mind expects Mexico to have this ability to succeed where America can not? Yeah, I thought so. That's why ,aking such demands of Mexico, even under threat of horrible punishment, is such a colossally stupid idea. To spell it out to the people who still can't connect the dots: It's pointless to command someone to do something they are unable to do.

Donald Trump is a stupid person's idea of a smart man, a weak person's idea of a strong man, and a poor person's idea of a rich man.

You're such an arrogant commie... you're right and anyone who disagrees with you is stupid... you're strong everyone who disagrees is weak... America is not about everyone agreeing but we're all Americans. I have my opinion and right to express it, conservatives don't try to "shut up" others for their views or opinions onlyl libturds...your comments and the liberal attitude wreaks of the intolerance you accuse others of being. Liberals are pathetic, principless, cowards... that’s why they lose at the ballot box based on their beliefs, that is unless they lie to get elected then do the opposite, which they all do…. MAGA!

Since many here are ignorant of the rules governing refugees, here is a link to the charter and the updated protocol from 1967 that was signed by 145 nations. Including the USA. Of course this was back in a different time when the USA was concerned about the world, wanted to lead it, was reaching for the stars, when the Peace Core was active, saw itself as the shining city on a hill, and wanted to be a beacon of Freedom that shone into the darkest of places. Good times...

We're a sovereign nation screw the un. We need to eliminate instant citizenship for anyone born here that is not born of both parents being US citizens. No more "Birthing Holidays". President Trump (such sweet music isn't it!!) should send the Military to close the border and if Mexico allows the people to cross its entire nation to come here, we should sanction Mexico back into the stone age. If we have no borders security that means we're being invaded, period. NO Nation would allow that so why do we... oh I forgot pathetic libturds want to ruin the nation.... MAGA!!!

@xjug1987a Taking a step back to look at the whole problem, a better and longer lasting approach would be to use the power and influence of the USA and its partners at the UN to get the governments where all of these refugees are coming from to change their policies. People don't up and leave their lives with their kids in tow without a very good reason. Things absolutely need to change, but it has to be at the source of the problem. As they are all headed to Mexico, the USA and Canada our three nations should be working together as one to solve this problem within the South American nations where these people come from. It isn't about MAGA or left or right, it is a about ending abuses to human rights to stop the flow of refugees.
