Tesla Starts Taking Orders For Short Range Model 3 Priced At $45,000

Tesla Inc.’s long-promised $35,000 version of the Model 3 sedan is still nowhere to be found, but it’s inching closer to that price point.

The electric-car maker has started taking orders for a mid-range battery Model 3 that goes about 260 miles between charges for $45,000. That’s about $4,000 less than the starting price of the sedan that went on sale last year, excluding incentives or options.

I guess the 'deposit pipeline' is starting to run low and Elon wants some more interest free loans (disguised as product deposits).

whats interesting is that if you "bought" a 35k car... when it is finally delivered in 2050 it maybe worth a good deal more :)

Glad I was able to snag a Model 3 Long Range Premium RWD (310 miles EPA, 340 miles real life)) for $49k. Looks like they have discontinued my model in favor of the more expensive AWD (which I don't need) and the less expensive but shorter range. In any case the price point is lowering and the 200 mile range due early next year will probably coincide with the Model Y reveal. It is clear Tesla is shifting into a higher gear production model by the lowered price point. The train is gaining steam and lots of people jumping onboard. I would expect tons of BMW 3 series trade-ins and Benz C Class numbers to crater next report.

Now that we know that the Base Model 3 would cost over $30,000 to produce - and is just materials and labor - add in Transportation,Warranty, Advertising - and service/support - and noting that Tesla announced that its "profits" would be significantly lower than expected with high priced Model 3s - and by the FACT that Elon has admitted they cannot actually produce a $35,000 Model three and make a profit - Why is this anything different. THIS is simply bait and switch for the thousands who were never supplied their cars.

The $35k model is still coming but will be sans rebate. You can either pay $45k for a model that has 40 more miles than base, and after rebate pay $35k... or wait for a $35k model where you will only get a state rebate (for most states) and pay $32.5k. I would go with the $45k option now.

Just remember that Tesla Motors started taking deposit for the base Model 3 in April 2016. That's two and a half years ago. They still have not started delivering those.

Article like this one...

From what I've been reading few if other brands will accept a Tesla on trade in. If true it will kill the market for used ones but force current owners to buy a new one. Not seen this before.

Even if that were the case it is pretty irrelevant, a Tesla owner is unlikely to trade their car for another brand with a 95%+ satisfaction rating.

Also, look up actual used Tesla prices on Carmax, Craigslist, etc. They are not cheap and retain value better than any other EV.

No Shame... Classic Bait & Switch as stated above and yet there are still so many that will do business with this company...

Funny how Telsa discontinued offering full self driving as an option (probably due to pushback from the SEC or DOJ for selling a fake product that doesn't exist).

We'll see if they refund all of those $5k deposits.

Everyone up until this point paid $3k for the "Full Self Driving" option, and it is still coming after the HW3 upgrade. I think they are actually going to raise the price on that option, probably to $4-5k.

With Version 9 of the OS, they delivered the first feature that was exclusive to those that purchased full self driving, all 8 cameras were used to make a 360 degree view around the car and you get a very accurate blind spot monitoring from that with warning indicators. Now it looks like that feature rolled out to everyone with Autopilot and those that just got the standard Autopilot are using 8 cameras instead of the promised 4 from the ordering page.

Thing this will be a double-win. Those that bought standard Autopilot will get more than what was promised and those who got FSD will save thousands from what others will pay.

I hope you are smart enough to realize lane keeping assist and automated steering are two different things. There are a limited number of Mercedes, Cadillac, and Nissan cars that have automated steering, none are as good as Tesla's and no economy cars except for the Leaf have it (at $40k+ you could argue the Leaf with this package is not an economy car).
