Everyone Is Gunning For Tesla: Audi Claims E-Tron Sedan To Target Model S P-100D

Audi‘s upcoming E-Tron GT sedan will be more performance-focused than the E-Tron SUV, the company has confirmed.

Speaking with Autocar, Audi powertrain boss Siegfried Pint revealed that the sedan will look to match the acceleration figures offered by vehicles like the Tesla Model S P100D.

It will be “steered towards performance” Pint said, adding that it will also achieve a similar 248-mile (399 km) range to the E-Tron SUV.

Again - it depends on PRICE. If the pricing - after INCENTIVES and TAX Savings are similar - and they could be - the AUDI - being a newer car - is likely to sell very well in that space.

not to mention one thing AUDI actually does well... is the interior.

No. Nobody is "gunning for Tesla." That's a myth perpetrated by people who believe that Tesla is "The" EV maker. How is the relatively successful Nissan Leaf competition to the Tesla, other than it's just another EV?

In reality, automakers of all sorts are getting into electrification, from more and better gas/electric hybrids plug-ins, to pure EVs with better range, shorter recharge time, and lower price tags. All good news for EV fans.

Meanwhile, in the United States, Trumpty Dumpty and crew are busy repealing anti-pollution regulations and fuel economy standards, and they evangelize the virtues of "clean" coal. Comedians couldn't make this stuff up :-) Will there be subsidies for coal-fired steam engines any time soon? ;-)

PS: In an interesting way, politics are like driving: To go backward, put it in R; to go forward, put it in D.

its a bit disingenuous to not give credit to Tesla for being the #1 electric car selling company (this year) which is forcing the rest to actually make a car to sell. Which is good for us the consumer.
now I would personally buy a Audi over a Tesla pretty much anyday...

The Etron sedan should replace the pointless and poor selling A8 and possibly the A6 as well.

Anyone here on this board has a chance to drive the Model 3 Performance version ? I would really like to hear your unbiased opinion about how it drives after you experience it on your own - please spare me the comments on the interior and center display, just focus on the driving.

I've had it for 3 weeks and honestly believe it drives better than my own Porsche Turbo. Don't know how the e-tron will drive, but can't wait to try it. I missed a chance to drive the E-Pace 2 weeks ago in the Bay Area, but heard the event was more for show than actual driving. Still want to test drive it eventually so I can form my own opinion. Car magazines are usually biased so I can't really trust their reviews.

You don't want an unbiased opinion. You have an opinion already formed and you want someone to say the same opinion to you so you can say "see, I was right". You're a hardcore, Alt-Left Liberal. You want nothing but biased views.

Sorry I wasn't clear. Unbiased -> pre-biased, opinion formed before having one's own experience.

I don't expect showering praises but do hope for valid evaluations from car experts here.

I've not driven a Model 3 yet, but I've driven several examples of the S and X and was underwhelmed.

I temporarily still have both an S and 3 and the 3 blows it away. I haven't driven a P100D but can say the Model 3 is way more fun to drive than a P85D even though it is slightly slower.

Also make sure to set the steering to "Sport" before you drive the 3.

And a Fusion is more exciting to drive than a Taurus but both are hardly extertaining.

I have driven the Model S P90DL, P100PL. These cars have wicked acceleration with decent handling, but I did not like the heavy feel when driving on curvy roads. They are excellent large sedans in all other measures.

As for the Model 3, I have a RWD (wife's) and a Performance Plus (P3+). I drive both on a regular basis. The Performance Model 3 is, in my opinion, is a very good package:
- instant acceleration, not as wicked as the S in Ludicrous mode but on par with the one without. Plenty of "go" from 0 to triple digit.
- nimble handling, despite its 4000-lb weight it drives like a small mid-engine sports car, no hint of weight transfer or hesitation. Recent article on its suspension design shed some light on why it's behaving that way (https://insideevs.com/secret-tech-tesla-model-3/)
- perfect size for a family sports sedan
- other tech goodies

My comparison to the Porsche Turbo seems biased (it's subjective anyway), but I think it has some merits: they are the cars I have immediate access and can do a back to back comparison any time, and they are judged from the day to day use perspective. They are obviously built for different purposes, the Turbo an all-out sports car intended for the track but happens to be a very good daily driver. The Model 3 is the opposite - a sports sedan designed to add spice to the mundane daily use but has the legs to run with the big boys in an instant, and can be a good track car with proper gear. From my perspective of daily use at 5 10ths their capabilities, the P3+ is a winner in its environment.

My biggest gripe with the P3+ is that it needs larger tires and the promised Track Mode to make it a truly special car. As is, it doesn't like curves with elevation changes or mid-turn bumps (for the latter, an active suspension would help). But on smooth roads, it does exactly what you want it to do with ease.

Indeed and not only is this typical Liberal "make the facts up as you go" mentality it is also apples-to-oranges comparison that that tribe loves so dearly.

Ford did take a $9 billion loan, that's not money? At least we didn't lose money on Ford, kudos to them for that.
